Medically Needy

HI! Was just wondering if anyone knows if the Florida Medicaid Medically Needy program will pay for WLS? For that matter, does anyone know of a provider for a PCP? Any help would be deeply appreciated. I live in Pensacola. Thanks-a-bunch. Donna

Donna, click on the Insurance Tab at the top of the OH page and follow the links to Medicaid. There you cab read reviews and the posting persons profile to see what they did to have Medicaid pay for it. You will most likely still have some sort of co-pay still. Good Luck, Mike

Hi Donna...hate to break the bad news but... I also live in Pensacola and have been trying to get wls for years now. Medicaid will approve it, the problem is there is NO surgeon in florida that will take medicaid. Ive tried them all!!! I even went as far as going to Ft Lauderdale and had ALL my pre-op testing done, including the 250.00 psych eval. only to be told later by my surgeons office that the hospital he used no longer would accept medicaid. Ive been bangin my head against a wall and getting nowhere. Good luck, adn if you do find out any differant info plz let me know too. I feel like if medicaid has approved it and there is no surgeon in Florida then they should allow us to go to alabama or somewhere to get it done

Hi Donna, While there may not be a surgeon in Florida who takes straight Medicaid. The two surgeons who operate out of Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater Fl accept Staywell which is a medicaid HMO. If you can switch to this then it would be covered after you have completed one year of medically supervised weight management. If you are interested in more information email me. Julie
