I'm hoping to attend my first pre op meeting at TGH as soon as I'm informed about the time and date. I called Dr Murr's number and the girls there were just wonderful. I've been here before. Not TGH but I was a Wish Center Candidate until they filed a Chapter 11 and left Flordia 2weeks before I was scheduled! What a let down that was. Anyway, I know that there's suppose to be a meeting coming up soon. I really want to attend this . For the last 2 1/2 yrs I've been trying to get this procedure done because of my health problems. Now, finally it looks like I found the right man. All my doctors know Dr Murr which makes me extreamly comfortable that they think that he's just Great! So with 4 Doctors that are all Specialists agreeing with me that I should go to him and hopefully will be able to have the surgery. I am a bit nervous though. I'm 54 and so I have a feeling that I'm older than most. I would love to hear from anyone that is in their 40-50 age ,also, about how long recovery was and how the pain Post Op was handled. I'm in pain from my disease and concerned that they may have trouble maintaining my pain. ? I don't know . This is one reason I want the surgery to get of medicines. I'm cutting this off now. Please, write back and let me hear from anyone that's had the procedure. I'm concerned about the woman that said she's tired of jumping through hoops. I'd be more worried if I didn't. God Bless, Linda

Linda, I was 50 when I had my lap RNY and on a scale of 1-10 I'd say the recovery was a 3. It was easier than the hysterecotmy I had when I was 43. Of course, they hyst. was a long vertical incision and the RNY was laproscopic which made the recovery much easier. I only used the Demerol pain pump the first 2 days in the hospital and didn't take any pain meds after I came home. (I had a Demerol pain pump in the hospital b/c I'm allergic to Morphine). Of course, you need to consider the pain & recovery time involved but don't let that be the only thing you're evaluating when deciding whether to have weight loss surgery or not. After you talk to your doctors & the bariatric surgeon and you've researched the procedures take time to weigh the pros & cons of having surgery vs. staying the way you are now. Then make your decision. For ME, having wls was the best thing I could've done for my health. I'm healthy, off my C-Pap machine and most meds (pre-op I was on 10 meds / day). But you have to do what is best for YOU! Good luck on your journey! Vickie J.
