I need some advise/feedback
My WL has slowed way down this week and I am getting very discouraged. The first week, I lost 11 pounds. The second week, 10 dropped off. I am in the third week and have only lost 2.5 pounds in the last 5 days. I guess the reason I am so concerned is because I have been able to eat a little more normal this week...not as much liquidy foods but now I am wondering if I should go back to the liquid foods as the weight was just sliding off. I know I probably am overreacting because even 2.5 pounds is good progress but I just want to hear from those of you who may have had similar experiences with their WL journey. I need some advise. Can anyone reassure me that I am needlessly panicking???
If you read my story, you'll notice there is a gap in my posting anything between my first day home and my 3 months doctors visit. Reason? I didn't weight myself at ALL during that time. I'd spent enough time on here watching people go batty with the stalls, up, downs, etc of the scale that I decided I did NOT need that added stress in my life
I mean, really, there is little you can do the first 3 months to screw up, so why torture yourself weighing during that phase? It's much more important to LEARN to eat and function again, to get in all the vitamins, fluids, etc. Nope, scales during this time period are just the
LOL
And just so you know, I started at 425 and had ONLY lost 48 pounds by my 3 month appt...but I did go on to lose 230 total in 20 months. Take heart and be happy

You're normal. In my profile too you will see slows and fast weight drops. I averaged 1-2 lbs a week in the end. What matters is that you are losing weight. Sometimes the body has to catch up to the weight loss. 21 lbs in two weeks is alot to adjust to. Just remember, protein, fruits and vegetables. water, vitamins, stay away from white carbs till after 6months. exercise and when you can add weight lifting to cardio and you will see great results. Don't get discouraged, our bodies are all different, and as dame tooter said, its the end results that matter, not the length of time it takes to get there.
We're cheering you on!!

Hey!!
I had Dr Jawad as my surgeon too. During the first couple of months your weightloss is very sporadic, depending on Calorie intake, your body and MYRIAD of other factors. One thing I Truely suggest... follow Dr. Jawads eating rules. Your first month should only be full liquids. The most solid thing I was able to eat during that time was runny oatmeal or cottage cheese. I know it sucks... believe me.. my husband refused to eat in front of me... I kept crying... but its important. You are still healing and he's been doing this a long time. He wouldn't put us thru something if it wasn't necessary. The second month is all mushies.. I had soft meats (turkey, chicken, fish) over cooked veggies (squash and zuchinni are my fav's and Broccoli, but its on the no no list the first couple of months because of the extra fiber that you don't need). I'm about to hit my 4 month aniversary and I'm down over 80lbs (haven't weighed in over 2 weeks). Hang in there, it will fall off in time. Don't stress too much, as your body can sense that stuff. Hide the scale. I only weigh about every 2-6 weeks.
It's all good, and you are doing wonderfully! It'll all be fine.

RM, as others have said, stop weighing yourself. Give yourself a break. I too had big periods when I saw no change. So I took advice and stopped the daily weigh in. I have had 8 weeks at a time of no weight loss. Follow your md instructions and have faith. Try to get your exercise in too!!!. If it makes you feel in control go back on your liquid for a couple of days. Also, try on some old clothes and make yourself feel better. I found I was still loosing inches even if the scale was not changing.
I was 273 at my surgery on 11-3-2005 and this am I was 185.5. 30 lbs from my goal.
Hang in there
Dianne

Thank you all for the very sound advise and wisdom!!! I have been told by others who have been through WLS not to weigh yourself every week but I was so excited when the pounds were falling off that I got into the bad habit of weighing everyday. I will definitely put the scale away and only pull it out once a month. I will also recheck the nutritionist suggestions to be sure I am eating foods that are on her approved list. I am staying away from unnecessary carbs but I am able to eat a little more soft foods (cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, grits, etc) than I was in the beginning and I guess that is why I am worried. I was thinking maybe I was eating too much but I am amazed at how little I eat (3 or 4 spoonfuls and I am filled) so I am not going to needlessly worry. I am at the point where I think I will be able to tolerate moderate workouts (Curves???) but I still have the G-tube in and it hurts to jiggle it in anyway so I might wait until next week to join Curves when my tube comes out. I do light exercise now by walking and using the stretchy band but I can definitely tolerate a more serious workout. Thank you all who have responded to my post. I will definitely take your advise to heart
!!! Also, I have my picture on my profile page but I don't seem to have the little picture that attaches to my posts. Do any of you know how I go about getting my little picture on my posts??? Thanks again for everything. Becci
