Hi guys, I am 8.5 months post-op and have had burning in my pouch off and on for a while now. All of the sudden it has gotten very severe. It hurts even when I am not eating and it seems that coffee and dairy send me through the roof in the pain dept. I burn in my pouch and have nausea. Last night was the worst episode yet! I was in agony and finally took a percaset for the pain so I could sleep. The pain has progressively gotten more intense and lasts longer. I have neither ate nor drank today and I am "hurting". Not absolute agony like when I do eat but never the less... hurting. To top it all off, I am going out of town on Sun. for 2 weeks! I am frantically trying to get some answers and TRYING to avoid the ER. Anybody have any ideas? What are the symptoms of an ulcer? Thanx for listening guys! Sallykate

Sallykate, I dont know what one would feel like, but have you called your surgeon? They may be able to get you in for an emergency appointment and that would be the best! If it is that severe though, you may need to go to the ER that your surgeon is associated with and ask him to meet you there. *hugs* Amy

Pain like that which is not subsiding is not normal. Call your dr. office before they close and maybe you can avoid the ER. Usually you can go in to see them if it is an emergency.

Sallykate... Get in touch with your doc. Sometimes patients have to go on carafate or other ulcer type "healers" for lack of a better word. It may be something that can be very simply taken care of with a prescription. He might even just want to try you on something to see if it will take care of your symptoms. But above all else let your doc know what is going on. Symptoms....burning, hurting pain...sometimes associated with eating..sometimes not. Vague huh ? But you have something going on..so see to it girlie ..so your trip out of town will be fun ! Hugs...Peggy

Sounds like one to me. Carafate will probably do the trick, although they may want to do an endoscopy. Ask for the pill carafate if possible, the liquid is so chalky. Call the doc and see if he will try the carafate first. I called Dr Kim who did my surgery and did not go through my pcp. Its excess stomach acid from our old stomach and could be in your upper duodumen (sp?). You've had your gall bladder out right, because that can cause pain too. Keep us posted, and call your doc now! Your pic is so pretty! hugs, Tami
