pre op diet...?
Lauren I am pre op right now and have to loose weight before wls 7/27 on one of the other boards the group does a protein train. Which is high protein and very little carbs and sugar. I am doing a all liquids right now for the next two weeks. Just research and find what works best for your husband. He should check with his surgeon or pcp. I am not a dr. and I do not recommend any of this without dr approval first. Especially if he has medical conditions.

Welcome to the Journey, For my Pre-Op Diet my Surgeon had me on Pure Protein which mainly what your Post-Op Diet will be. I'm/I was Super Morbidly Obesed. This was also my 6 month dictor's supervided diet required by most insurance companies. I was eatting eggs, chicken and meats (I hated Fish & still do). Oh and cheeses. I cut my portains down to 4 ounces per meal three or four times per day.
Then it wasn't required for Open RNY pateints as it is required by all Laproscopic ones both RNY & Bandings. But I still did a Liquid Diet Two Weeks Prior to my surgery. This will not only help you lose more weight but shrink your Liver, which needs to be moved to get to your stomach. My surgeon has his patients do the Opti-Fast Liquid Diet. Which can only be bought with a Prescription. But we get it directly thought my Surgeon's office. Thus also if a liquid diet is done there is no need for the Bowel Prep the night before your surgery.
So I lost 30 pounds Pre-Op & 10 pounds on the Liquid Diet = 40 pounds
I've gone from 600 to 560 on my surgery day to now Two months out at 490 minus.
That's 110 pounds in 6 months. I'm still on Pure Protein & Zero Calorie drinks, but I only eat an ounce to an ounce & a half. I pushed two ounces once but felt like I had a Thanksgiving Buffet and then needed to lay down for an hour or so to feel ok again.
I can't drink 1/2 hour prior to eatting and an hour after eatting.
Also exercise, I was swimming two hours and walking. Read my profile to see where I am now in my progress. But I am walking again and will be swimming soon again.

mY SURGEON PUT ME ON 3 PROTEIN SHAKES A DAY AND 1 SENSIBLE MEAL. ICHOSE BREAKFAST ON DAYS I WORKED SO I COULD WORK AND DAYS I WAS OFF I CHOSE DINNER. I LOST 32 LBS DOING THIS. I HAD TO QUIT SMOKING AND I HAD GAINED 10 FROM EATING CANDY TILL THE NICOTINE CRAVINGS WENT AWAY. SO I ACTUALLY LOST 22 LOL. I AM BANDED AND SMOKE FREE AND ON THE LOSING SIDE. PJ
PS I DID OPTIMUM EGG PROTEIN SHAKES THE CHOCOLATE AND VANILLA I WOULD USE HALF WATER AND HALF SOYMIL**** AND FROZEN STRAWBERRYS WITH 1 SPOONFUL OF SPLENDA. SOME DAYS IS PUT SOME YOGART IN IT FOR A SMOOTHIE. YUMMY...
