OT: Going to Destin!

Alabama girl here, never been to Destin. I have always gone to Panama City to the beach. Have any suggestions on where to go and where to eat? Thanks All!! Melinda

I can't help you out. It has been a while since I have been there, but I do remember the beach there is the best. The water was always emerald green and the sand is always so white with no shells. Very beautiful.

Destin is a very nice place. It is smack in the middle of an incredible paved trail that is great for walking or bicycle riding or skating. It is part of the Rails to TRails Conservancy that turns old railroad beds into paved trails for walkers or riders. My husband and I go there at least once or twice a year to ride our bicycles. Ask around when you get there and people will tell you where to find the trail. It is very hot in the summer so make sure to take plenty of water. That sounds great. I'm really excited. I didn't think we were going to get to go anywhere this summer. We are spending my husbands Birthday there, well it is kind of an anniversary/ birthday trip. 4 days/3 nights Thanks for the info!! Melinda

Hi Melinda, I live in Pensacola and go to Destin all the time. There are some chain rest. to eat that are good- but then there are som local places that are good too. if you go east from Destin to SanDestin there is a huge outlet mall that is fantastic. In Destin there is a Big Kahuna water park that is a lot of fun. There is a Bass Pro shop that is fun too. You wil lprobably have to find some cool or wet places in the middle of the day because it has been in the upper 90's here lately. The beaches are wonderful. Destin has changed a lot through the years. It is now a place for people with a lot of money. People fly in for the weekend on a private air strip. There is a restaurant called McGuires that is good. The original McGuires in in Pensacola. Irish of course- they have good steaks, hamburgers, the BEST spinach and artichoke dip with homemade chips. great with margaritas!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it is fun to try the local places. I can have Olive Garden at home! I have been looking up the outlets and am soooo excited! I have for as long as I can remember always gone to Panama City. I told my hubby I wanted to go somewhere we haven't been before. A friend of mine is getting married there in August, so I might get to make 2 trips this summer to Destin. I love the beach, always have. I know I will love it!!! Thanks for the great info! Melinda
