I had my surgery on the 21st (Wednesday). Today 23rd (Friday) I am feeling so much better than I was this morning...I even took a shower. But I am concerned about not getting enough water/liquids. I just cannot drink more than a few sips. When will I get to the point where I can put some nurishment back into my body?

It is really hard to get in all of your fluids when you are this early out. But it is very important. My doctor suggested taking a couple of sips every 15 minutes, all day long. If you watch TV, like I did while recovering. I took my sips every time a commercial came on.

You might want to try some SF popsicles. They count as a liquid. Little flavor, little "crunch" and variety. Nourishment---concentrate on fluids for now. Staying hydrated is the most important. All other things come in time. Hang in there, you are only three days out.

I just had surgery on the 19th of June. I found that sugar free popsicles and water with tons of crush ice helps. Just keep sipping and before you know it you will be taking in more. Things a pretty swelled up and the ice helps. I am able to take in 1 24 oz bottle of water not including my 2 protein drinks and popsicles. I need to get to 3 protein drinks to meet my protein goal. Oh my. Well get there. Hang in there. Liz

Thank you for the advise. I took you up on both the popsickles and the commercial sips. The pain is getting so so so much better BUT I am very dizzy and lightheaded. I get myself worried because I am not getting enough "vitamins" and the nurse at Dr. Jawad's office scared me when she said "if you do not get enough nurishment, you will go blind!" Now I am just worrying about that part but like you said I am only 4 days out now and I walked my dog yesterday (about a 1/10th of a mile) so at least I have the mobility piece down. Today, I did not do too much as I have been very very dizzy. I did walk to the mailbox and down the road for just a little ways before I decided I had better go lay back down. I just wanted to say thanks for the advise. I put it to use!!!! Becci

Where do I find vitamist & how do I use it? Do I just spray it in my mouth like breath freshner or do I spray it on foods? How are you doing with your progress so far? I cannot wait until I am 6 weeks post and can have the tube removed. Does it make a dramatic difference in your pain/mobility?

http://www.vitamist.com This is the web page.... you spray it in your mouth 8 sprays.... its kinda minty...the b 12 is also great when you need a bost. I am doing great, I guess?...LOL ....I still have trouble eating, protein drinks make me sick ...LOL but I keep trying.....32 or 33 lbs so far and I try and work out a few x.s per week.....http://bariatriceating.com. is also a great place to go..... But I am still very week at times......I got my tubes out after day 3 and while still in the hosp., you should talk to you doctor about that. my staples came out after 2 weeks., but that does not hurt. the pain from surgery will go away, soon. I am learning that everyone is different with they way they recover and what they can eat and do. I think listening to your body is the best....jean
