Florida Medicaid
Donna I am in the same position as you .. I was able to find out that your PCP must submit doc supporting that it is a medical need for you to have any of these procedures. You must have a phyc evaluation as well as track records of 6 months or more of trying to loose weight and even diatery plans. Once that is done your PCP must fax it to medicaid or the HMO medicaid that you are under. After that is where the hardest part begins. Finding a General surgeon who has exp with these surgery and will take medicaid. This is the point that I am at and OH MY GOSH am I having a hard time. So I will like to ask you if we can keep in touch so we can help each other. I have recieved a email from a Bariatric group from ocala but I was told that for them to consider me I need to get 4 or more friends in my same position where they will send a limo to drive us back and forth to the hospital to see the doc there and it does not matter what insurance you have. If you will like please take my email address so I can give you info. So far 2 of my friends have said yes . If you will like to consider please let me know. It will be free consultation for all of us. No $$. And possibility they will take us all if we are in medicaid. But I will find out more info. Please keep in touch with me so we can help each other. I will have you in my prayer so God will help us. My email is [email protected] or [email protected] God Bless You and help you too-Karina Santana

Hello I was looking at you and Karina's message about medicaid. If you are like me that means you have proabably called just about every doctor under your medicaid. If not Iv'e called several. They have all said "NO", or they are no longer taking medicaid. The first step is finding out which HMO do you have. If you are on a plan like me (staywell) it will be difficult. They could not find me a doctor within their network. So, I had to file a grievance with them asking if I could leave for a "good cause". I faxed them a letter to speed up the process. They have 30 days to respond and find a surgeon. My pcp called them as well saying it was urgent. I already new they would'nt find one, because I had already tried several. I found two doctors here in Florida after so much work and headachs.( email me at [email protected]) I went to their required seminar.I loved the doctor and met some nice people. I didnt care for the support group. They'll call you back after filling out your profile online.
( Because everyone in the public sees this website
( I dont want every one calling him before I can get my foot in the door myself). I have to wait until June 10,2006 for staywell to get back to me. If they dont call me with results
I then call medicaid options to inform them they did not respond to the 30 day grievance. Medicaid options says that if I call them before the 16th.
I will then call them with the grievance number and then I can get with medipass starting on July 1.2006
. Medipass is for paitents with disease and morbit obesity is a disease,Therefore they won't put you through all the hassles like the other HMO's of medicaid. At the seminar the surgeon told me. I didnt even have to worry about the six months you were asking about. They will not take staywell because of troubles of receiving payment in the pass.
I go to my first consultation on July 11,2006. I then will do my nutri & pych. Then wait for approval and the surgery date should be within 2-3 weeks(says the staff). If everything goes well I will have the surgery August or Septmber. email me for the Doctor and his number. I will post his information after surgery. I know the demand is so high right now in Florida. Once people find a Doctor whose accepting medicaid they become full and booked.
