Hey all! I have a new face again!! I swear I could look into the mirror every month and see someone new! It's so neat to see that you change constantly and life just gets better! I will be taking some DETAILED photos after my PS on June 13th, so be on the lookout for those puppies! Speaking of puppies, I got a new pup 2 days ago. I have a 2 year old smooth coat chihuahua named Shiitake Noelle, and she was joined by a 7 week old long-haired chihuahua named Aloha Jolie on Saturday and she is PRECIOUS!! I will post some pics later! Hope everyone is having a great day! ~Phoenix 287/145/135 PS on 6/13/06!!!!!!!!!

Wow! You look amazing! I am guessing that people who have not seen you in a while might not even recognize you. OT - I read in your profile that you've been approved for PS with Aetna (congratulations BTW). I am just starting the process with Cigna and I am curious how much documenting you had to do with your PCP. I have looked at Cigna's requirements and they are kind of vague on what exactly my PCP should be documenting. I am guessing skin problems, back problems, etc. but was wondering if there was anything else. Thanks.

Hi Jim, My insurance actually initially denied my request and I had to file an appeal. The denial was based on not enough documentation. So the final paperwork that got me approved was a request from my plastic surgeon, a referral from my pcp to my plastic surgeon, a referral from my pcp to a dermatologist, a letter from my dermatologist stating that i had chronic intertrigo for at least 3 mos w/proper treatment and her recommendation for the surgery as a "medical necessity", all of the clinical notes from my ps and dermatologist visits, a personal letter from me, and photographic documentation showing the excess skin and the panniculus hanging "at or below the pubic level". Hope this helps!! ~Phoenix

That's good information. Thank you. To this point I have just been "dealing" with the skin problems, but I am going to start documenting everything starting now. I believe that my insurance requires a 6 months worth of documentation, plus will not even consider me until I am 18 months post-op (just a little over 6 months from now). Keep us posted on your PS. And I am looking forward to some "after" pictures

Hi Phoenix, I love my chihuahua too. Her name is Sadie. She is 5 years old and all black. Now she is getting a gray beard from age. She is a dear head with long legs. I love her so much and she is my baby. My husband and I treat her just like a baby. daily my husb. picks her up to take her out in the morning like he is cradling a real baby. we drop her off at my parents daily while we are at work. we dont know what we would do without her. we have though of getting another but we think she would be so jealous. I have my lapband surgery June 8th. I am paying for it myself. I just found this site and am exicted to have such support. take care and nice to meet you. donna

Hi Donna! Sadie sounds adorable! and yeah, we were worried about getting another one because Shiitake is so spoiled that we thought she'd be real jealous too. However, it is day number five, and they just started playing together like old pals last night. It is too cute! Shiitake still needs lots of attention, but she doesn't freak out if i give Aloha any. My friend also has 2 chihuahuas and was worried that her first wouldn't take, but they are best of friends now too! My feeling is if you are a chi lover, two just means more to love!! As far as self pay, i know ALL about that, my wls was also self pay. Thank God my insurance is covering this round of plastics!!! This site is definitely a blessing and I have been addicted since before my surgery and continue to hop on EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I could not ask for a better group of people or a better place to find such a plethora of knowledge and support in this matter!! Good luck and you take care as well! ~Phoenix

Phoenix, I would love to hear about a typical day when you first had your lapband. The only thing I am concerned with is the possibility of not losing weight. I have been reading that people have had the surgery and then do not lose- I would be devestated if this happened to me. Also, how did you get your insurance co. to pay for plastic surgery? You do look amazing. I am so happy for you. I love this site already. Why is there never anyone on the the chat area. I logged in a couple of times and noone is ever there? Maybe Sadie would do okay with another chihuahua. I love her so much. she is like our little baby. My parents love her too. We talk about her like she is a child. you know, I am sure. I appreciate talking to you and hope to get to know you better. I have a before picture of me but my laptop died. I am using my husband's work computer. I have my pre-op appointments tomorrow. I start at 10:00 with the psychologist and then end the day with the nurtitionist. long day ahead. I am having my surgery about an hour away from where I live. take care and have a good day tomorrow. thanks donna

Hi Donna, Unfortunately I could not tell you about a typical lapband day as I did not have the lapband. I had laparoscopic Gastric Bypass surgery, so I could tell you about that! LOL as far as my insurance covering my plastics, I had to appeal once because i was initially denied, but after submitting paperwork from my plastic surgeon, pcp, dermatologist, and myself, I was approved because I showed proof of everything they asked for and it was deemed reconstructive. I will be having the last of my plastics performed in Dec/Jan, but those will be self pay as they are considered cosmetic. I am having a breast lift/aug, arm lift, and thigh lift. If there is anything you need to know, let me know!!! Take care and you have a good one tomorrow as well!! ~Phoenix
