What surgery are u referring to Heather? RNY? Absolutely not. I had diabetes when I had my surgery and I was approved...and my health has drastically improved...I no longer has "diabetes" or more so that I don't take any more diabetic medication. It has been to the insurance's benefit since I no longer go every month to get medication nor to the docs' office.

Heather, If I understand your post, you've heard that if you have diabetes your insurance co will automatically approve your weight loss surgery... Unfortunately that is probably not true. Unless something has changed very recently, I've heard of folks with diabetes being denied wls. Sorry! I wi**** were true!! Vickie J.

I have a friend who is insisted that this is true..... well I did not think so. I thought that I would ask here for her. Sometimes ppl get a idea in there head and run with it as I believe she has.

Not true in my case either.....I had to go Self Pay after CIGNA HMO denied me. I was maxed out on 140 units a day and 3 oral meds to control mine. I no longer take any diabetic medication after droping 150 lbs this year. Not only did they not have to pay for the surgery...now they no longer pay for the meds every month.....Looks like they won all around huh? However, it was worth every penny..... Keep pursuing your Insurance company and the surgery. Ken
