I'm about 3 months into using wegovy... I've had issues with constipation! What a change. Lol
I'm working on that but the absence of hunger is amazing. I'm logging everything I eat into my fitness pal so I can track the nutrients.. doing OK with the proteins and carb, and the water drinking. I'm down to 170, and really happy I tried this. I definitely needed the DS to get from 430 to 190 or so... but these last 30 pounds I want to get rid of needed an extra boost! Thanks to everyone who have me articles to read! It was appreciated.
Hi Everyone..
I'm about 17 or 18 years out from a 2 step DS by Dr. Inabnet at Columbia Presby in NYC. I was very active on the boards for the first few years and then life got in the way. I went from 430 and my current weight is 186. I go up and down between 180 and 190. I need to have some significant spinal cord surgery soon! And I'd like to be about 20 pounds less in order to rehab from it better.6
I tried the search feature in this forum for Wegovy, to see if anyone in this hive mind has any experiences with it. I'm trying to library search any papers on the effect with DS patients but haven't found much. I've been very strict in the past month with high protein low carb food plans but the scales not moving. (My 6 month labs are usually good and only need minor vitamin tweaking once in a while)
Anyone with resources on this to share? Or any practical info! And a very cheery hello if any other old times are still around!
Mary
I've been way too liberal with my diet. I had surgery in 2006 and wouldn't change my DS for any other type but.... the pounds are creeping back on... I've been faithful with my vitamins and blood work but the carbs are my Waterloo. I'm starting back tomorrow with low carbs, drinking water, not Coke Zero, etc etc. I want to lose 30 pounds by Christmas!
I needed to check in and say hi to anyone from OH *****members me...MaryC from NJ, and become active on the group again. Hi!
Thanks.... I'll move it away from the Calcium a bit.... and ask about Potassium Citrate pills... trying to carry the liquid around is a pain! Mary
I was prescribed KCL, and foolishly was taking the extended release pills for two months, while my levels kept dropping. (low levels are related to diuretic use)... We've cut the diuretic, and started on liquid KCL, NOT extended release pills I'm an old timer, and I don't know why that slipped on by me...usually I'm so careful with supplements. Anyway, does anyone know if Potassium needs to be taken away from anything else? I've read a lot about it, but didn't find anything about other vitamins/minerals. We'll redraw the levels in 2 more weeks, but once it's stable, I'd like to get back on to a dry form of Potassium. the liquid is a pain in the neck! Thanks for any info, Mary
I'm from NJ, and was (one) the test case back in 2006. I sued BC/BS to cover the DS, when they claimed it was experimental. I went 'pro se', represented myself.... halfway thru the case, it got dismissed, because BC/BS had revised their policy and no longer considered it experimental. They put criteria in place, but it IS a covered service since then. I know a few other NJ BC/BS folks who have had it covered recently. Don't settle for any surgery you're not sure of. Your specific policy may exclude WLS, but you'll have to read it. but, BC/BS of NJ does pay for it in certain policies. Mary
Thank you so much... She, her parents, and her fiancee are all rocks... (Yep, she got engaged to a great guy just before the ileostomy surgery) They just keep overcoming each new obstacle, and moving forward. I'm the freak-a-zoid who second guesses every medical decision, offers unsolicited advice, and can't go a day without checking in with her.... LOL... EVERYONE needs a Aunt like me LOL Thanks for everyone's good wishes. Mary C
She's so compliant with every change they suggest....she's always been on top of her supplements, lab values, food intolerances, etc.... and she had a one part DS with a vetted surgeon.... she's just one of the unlucky ones, where nothing has worked out for her.... 3 months at the medical center is just too long.... they are working on a discharge plan now with home infusions and pain management.... She's not on this board anymore... she left a while back... BUT i appreciate the thoughts, prayers and swinging critters on her behalf! Mary C
I was just wondering how it worked out for you...LynnBee has been at NY Presby for 92 days now.... they just can't figure her out, or fix her.... she has (as of this hospitalization) an ileostomy, a TPN line, a feeding tube, I/V's, etc etc etc...she has chronic obstructions and uncontrolable pain. I just wanted (needed) to hear a success story! Mary
I just tried these today, too!!!!! (There was a 2 for 1 coupon in the paper last week). I think these could be a great snack if hadn't got the combo and ate the mashed potato...LOL... They were my downfall ..... Next time, just the chicken!! Mary C
I've used several types from Whole Foods, including their 365 Double Strength brand. Which ones works for you, and which one didn't? I understand we're all different, but would like to know...thanks, Mary
I remember Melody had Dr. Pomp find a hidden hernia that was giving her troubles. I was just curious how it turned out for her after the second revision. Was talking about her with LynnBee last night, and got curious. Has anyone seen or heard from her? (sigh) I miss the great NYC OH parties/dinners.... Mary C
Damn....how did I miss that????? I'm trying to get my levels up quickly, a little deficient, but back to the blends for the maintainence...thanks!
My prescription plan covered the Vit D in the oil base (useless to me) but not the dry formulations from Vitalady or anywhere. I have Horizon BC/BS, and never submitted anything to the major medical portion.... Mary
I am curious....why are you moving from an isolate to a blend.... I was just told I should be moving to an isolate....and using the foods I eat as the 'blend' of the different protein types.... I'm trying to get better at keeping my protein up, so I'm trying to learn... yep, old dogs, new tricks....Thanks, Mary
If my primary orders them, and uses the correct diagnosis codes for obesity, malabsorption, anemia...I haven't had any trouble having them covered BC/BS Horizon PPS NJ I can look up what codes were on the forms if you need me too. Just PM me, because the notifications on here don't seem to be working! Mary C
Yay!!! and I can't wait until I get a body by Sauceda, too LOL just one more semester, then I can plan!!! Mary C
yes, its very common....and get better / worse depending on your carb consumption (usually). People post a lot about what sprays they've found , especially when they need to carry it with them for work, public restrooms, travel, etc... What one did you find? Mary C
I bloat, cramp, and fart like you wouldn't believe from the itols.....
