Hi there. Marsha here. I am 21 years post op. Starting weight..330. Currently 168. I pretty much follow a low-carb intake.
I had lots of gas as well, early on. About 1 year ago, I started taking a pro-biotic. Gas, gone. Perhaps, give it a try.

Hi. Twenty years ago I had the Gastric Bypass. I had a revision of the Duodenal Switch back in January of 2020. I started losing weight quickly and went through my first stall in my 4 and 5th month. As of my ninth month, I have lost 82 pounds. I didn't know ObesityHelp was around, so this might help me with a lot of the questions I have. But prior to finding Obesity Help, I got my information on the various bariatric surgery boards on Facebook.
I have a lot of questions. My surgeon and dietician haven't told me much even when I ask them. My dietician said only 60 grams of protein and at most, 1300 calories a day. When I did that I stopped losing weight all throughout my stall. So, I started paying attention to the people on the bariatric boards on Facebook. They would tell me at least 120 grams of protein and 1500 to 1600 calories a day. I started losing a little weight, maybe one to two pounds a week. But I'm told that is very little.
ALSO, I have terrible constipation. Even with all the walking, exercising ( I ride my recumbent bike 6 to 7 miles a day), tons of water, eating fruit and taking Miralax. So, I asked the people of Facebook and they said I'm not eating enough fat. A couple of people told me I should know better. Well, I'm getting information from different sides and I'm very confused. I know I should be losing more weight. And I should be able to use the bathroom (I mean, my stomach makes all the right noises but I can't go).
So, PLEASE. What should I do to help myself?
you have received great advice. The only two things I would add are: many of us can't lose weight unless we eat 600-800 calories a day only. No rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, wheat or white flour products at all. No protein bars which are really glorified candy bars, no wine , beer or alcohol. No fruit.
the second thing is stay away from Facebook wls forums. They totally don't l ow what they are talking about. Stay here. There are many vets who have lost their excess weight and have kept it off. Follow their examples.
600-800 calories/day?
Stop saying you are a failure!!!
GI issues are common with the DS. has your dr tested you for SIBO, do you take a probiotic? I was taking 900B CFU 2xday. sometimes it looked like i was 6 months pregnant.

I do not think Cottam does the DS, I think he does sadi, sips etc.....
congrats on your accomplishment!

meaning supplement ADEK as individual pills...not as a multi.....your common channel is longer than "average" and you are a sadi...things may be different....follow lab work

I would kill the ADEKs.....as time goes on you will see where you will be deficient....and it will most likely be D and K out of the ADEKs....the % in those are typically off balance. keep your eyes out on your lab work....and trend it to catch if you are trending down before you end up in the toilet.

if you have changed nothing with your intake of food and exercise, I would run to the drs....something is wrong....but before doing that...I would journal all my food.....

Vit K deficiencies in the DS community are very very common, it's just that the vast majority of patients dont know and drs dont order vit K lab work. Take a dry Vit K supplement https://www.biotechpharmacal.com/products/k1-1000-vitamin-k1 . I would take a 180 turn to the person who told you to eat more leafy greens...you could eat a field of it and it would make no difference. You will have to take a supplement as long as you have your DS.
best to you

Just about a year ago, I underwent the full on BPD/DS surgery with a great surgeon, Dr. Simper, Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians. I set three increasingly optimistic weight loss goals, as the weight fell off at an almost alarming rate. Within about 10 months of surgery, I hit the very lowest weight goal I had set, which was almost unimaginable. Having hit that goal, my focus now is to stay within +/- 5 pounds of goal, thus remaining at an entirely stable weight. It's easiest to continue to lose weight, whereas gaining weight is hard. To stay around the goal weight, I likely eat around 3,500 to 4,000 calories a day. It's not really possible to consume as many protein calories needed to maintain weight, and since we only process 20% of fat calories, that won't really get you there, either. Hence, sugar, taken in moderation, in between protein meals, seems to work best.
Recently, I had my annual cardiac doc physical and blood test. It was very humbling after all these years to see 100% of my tests reflect really a perfect or better score on all health metrics. The only one that I am off on is that I am little bit anemic, even with the vitamins. I have no symptoms from it, and expect that over time it will improve.
So, here's the upshot: If you are like me, you will be thrilled at your improved health and vitality. You will thrill at being able to buy clothes off the rack, and have them look REALLY good on you. Today I noticed that the world, and chairs, and car seats, and everything else got bigger over this last year. Everything fits comfortably. I've gone from a 5X to a medium and from a 46 inch waist to a 32" waist. It's truly a miracle. If you need to lose a lot of weight (like over a hundred pounds) and you don't want to suffer trying to keep it off, I think you will find the BPD/DS to be an amazing, life-changing, solution. Good luck!!
