It is over 15 years for me, and I only get hungry or cravings if I eat too many carbs. I pay big time for candy with dumping that gets worse every year.

I get sugar cravings often especially when im stressed or over tired.

If i give in i try to eat fat free items but usually im satisfied with some fresh bread or watermelon chunks or a hot pretzel with mustard

. Yes its still carbs but nowhere near as fattening or reboundy as real candy .

I dont restrict carbs so eating them or even fat free candy doesnt lead to immediate weight gain but i have noticed a tendency to crave more the next day .
Its empty calories so why give in ? Skinny feels a LOT better than candy tastes.

Im so happy you're getting your operation finally !!!
Youve GOT this !!!

Bring plenty of reading material with you, a phone charger, maybe some water flavoring if you prefer flavored water ... clean underwear toothbrush hairbrush and a sweater ( hospitals can be cold !)

And get ready to walk walk walk every half hour and blow blow blow ( it really helps heal and recover faster ) ... your fellow patients probably wont be walking the halls but it helps SO much if you do what your doc recommends - no risk of painful blood clots for instance .

And don't worry if you feel woozy headed for a few weeks afterwards - its a side effect of the general anesthesia!

Were all rooting for you to be safe and heal quickly and comfortably !

Hey there,

Congrats on your loss, and on your success after surgery. I'm just four months out but haven't run into cravings as a result of the surgery. So far all of my hunger has been head hunger and it's hard to identify my body's signals at this point.

However, historically...I tend to fiercely crave sugar when I eat too many simple carbs and my body kicks over into almost an addiction mode. This is why I try to avoid simple carbs or plan a detox from them if they creep in. How's your diet looking these days? Maybe carbs are contributing.

Good luck!

It's not just the ladies, I eat a ton of sugar everyday. It's my single biggest failure since having wls. I gained back 25 lbs after 2 years but nothing since. The wls is still very effective at keeping me thin, and I do a lot of exercising to help things along.

Ladies anyone else going through this? First time posting but hoping for a answer. Had DS surgery on 08/10/2020. Lost about 110 pounds. My problem is extreme sugar cravings! My honeymoon phase as they call it stopped about the 2 year mark. My weight has jumped up about 10 pounds. I know I'm very low on estrogen as I'm post menopausal. Could that be causing my cravings? Or am I possibly not getting enough of something in my diet? Thanks!

2006 DS w/ Marchesini. I haven't been here for over a decade, but about 5 years ago I started needing iron infusions and I also have progressed into osteoporosis. The part of my intestine that is specialized for calcium absorption and also the area for iron does not meet food. So... One of the reasons that I chose the DS was that the surgery on the intestines was adjustable and reversible. I always figured that if I started withering away into one of those little old men I would get that part of my surgery reversed. So I am presently seeking an experienced DS surgeon in Michigan. Please pm me if you have any suggestions. The surgery worked great but i am entering an older age now and need to improve my intake of minerals. Peace and Love to everyone!
