Hi, I am not in the U.S. I am in Canada but I just saw a surgeon about going for an RNY to DS. He told me it is a very risky procedure. They first had to reverse the RNY and then do a sleeve and then they do the DS. That is a lot of surgery. I spoke to a few people that did have it done and they had nothing but complications. example, stomach hernia, one person they had to put a hold in her esophagus because food would not go down. Another person did not lose anything. Another one has constant pain. Please be careful. It really scared me.
I know everyone is different but I looked into this and it looks too scary for me. I just wanted to share this with you.
Are there any issues (absorption) with taking normal medications after DS?
I am sure there are since we do have malabsorption but what else are we going to take? Delayed release really don?t work for us because we pass them before they have completely released.

Thanks everyone for your responses, looks like she's going for the DS with Dr. Anthone which I think is the best choice. Even though she will probably end up with the Roux-en-y pouch she is fine with it.
She's gonna follow through with a couple appointments to get an opinion on the Panni removal but she feels getting the DS as her next move is the best one. The hospital requires 3-6 months supervised weight loss, even though self pay. But might as well get it started now so the sooner the better and have it done by end of year.
As a side note, I'm doing this for my sister to help her with the decision. Were both pretty quiet people and neither one of us has any social media accounts. This message board is something she would probably never do either. Just trying to be good brother :)
Thanks,
Bubba
She currently doesn't have any reflux problems (Only had heartburn once and has never thrown up in the year since she had the sleeve done. We seem to think more and more after I've been reading alot that she simply have that much stomach removed. I don't care for the idea of a Roux-en-Y pouch, but it will ultimately be her decision.
Will definitely pass along the consult info about Dr. K.
Thanks,
bubba
I will pass that along about a second opinion, which are hard to come by where were at. It's cool Dr. K Skypes, this might help her make up her mind. I personally feel the DS is the way to go but $ is always a factor.
Thanks,
Larra
WOW! That's incredible!! I'm so happy for you! Thanks for answering my questions and your offer to continue to answer them. I have my consult Saturday, and I have a lot of questions for the Dr too. Thanks again, and wishing you continued success! ;)
