Xifaxan is an antibiotic and should be used sparingly. It is killing ALL of the bacteria in your intestines (good and bad). This is fine for a clean slate, however the next step is to rebuild your bacteria colony with the use of probiotics. Continued use of any antibiotic builds up resistance which will hurt you down the line when you really need it and it stops working.

Hi all,
I do not post often here. My issues with odor and gas got worse regardless of diet and I went to see a GI doctor.
He suggested that my surgery may have left my intestines with lots of uncontrolled bad bacteria and thought I should try Xifaxan which is used to treat IBS. It seems to work pretty well. I will keep you informed
He did my surgery and I've had my revision for 6 years and have never had a problem.
I'm currently almost 2.5 years out and I had a 6lb regain. I just got back on track and dropped 2lbs in as many days. I know the rest will take a little bit long but the DS keeps working long after we do... Everyone I've talked to before getting my DS said all they had to do was get back to basics and it comes back off. This is one of the reasons I chose the DS in the first place.
As my GP says, the DS can take a licking but keeps on ticking...

Sunshine - I eat a minimum of 120 grams of protein a day. That didn't change when I was in the weight loss mode.

Extremely encouraging and helpful. When you are trying to lose weight how much protein daily do you try to intake?
