I find that graphing capability a big help. When I first started out just kept all the results in a spreadsheet but it does mess comparisons up when the ranges for your tests change because the provider changes. I have no experience about the relative reliability of one company over the other though.

Hi,

The long term answer is yes but I've found that things are easier as time goes on. I just passed 6 years and there are plenty of things that I can eat now that I found inadvisable to eat my first year. Much more prone to gas and quick BM's from sugary and high fat foods the first year. While some of that never went away the urgency is mostly gone.

I was reluctant to stray too far the first year but surgery in April and by Thanksgiving / Christmas I was OK to have a taste of a sweet potatoes and a small bit of pie, or a cookie at Christmas.

I do watch closely now and move back to a mostly protein regimen if I see I've gained a little. I'm currently hovering around 220 from a surgery weigh of 464 so maintenance is going OK for me.

As you start introducing more real food to your diet your bathroom habits will continue to change. This is a slow process so patience is a virtue with the DS. Everything takes time.

The scale is moving downwards! Yay.

I must say though that I've never spent so much time in the washroom. Sheesh. lol I'm trying hard not to step on the scale daily.......but every morning I do. Since yesterday I've lost .2lbs. So going down but soooo slowly. I think I'll ask my husband to hide it from me until Sunday. The scale that is.

Today marks three weeks since my surgery and I'm feeling good. I'm grateful that I'm off wor****il mid August as I really need to see what I will be able to eat that won't have me rushing to a washroom.

Debbie - I take a strong probiotic every day, and have for years. I try to switch brands every 6-12 months to make sure my system doesn't get too used to them.

I'm currently taking Nature's Way Fortify Optima Colon Support 90 Billion Probiotic. I really like them. Seems to keep my gut pretty happy.

I do get a bit of a big belly by the end of the day, and I simply blame it on carbs. I know I will never have a flat belly.

Hell to the YES!

When losing, most stick to very low carb diets, but once reaching goal, start introducing them back within reason, still eating protein-forward for the most part.

I am not taking any probiotics at this point in time. I have in the past and didn't notice a difference. But I know there are MANY kinds out there. Do you have any suggestions on types to take? And maybe I didn't take them long enough (I think I stuck with them for about a month)? I'm willing to give them a try.

Deb ~

Topic: RE: Fortero results for Osteoporosis @ 1 Year Mark

Janet,

Per WebMD.

Teriparatide (Forteo) is a synthetic version of the human parathyroid hormone, which helps to regulate calciummetabolism. It promotes the growth of new bone, while other osteoporosis medications improve bone density by inhibiting bone resorption, or breakdown. It is the only osteoporosis medicine approved by the FDA that rebuilds bone.

While Prolia is a so-called monoclonal antibody -- a fully human, lab-produced antibody that inactivates the body's bone-breakdown mechanism. It's the first "biologic therapy" to be approved for osteoporosis treatment.

In April the FDA gave its OK to Evenity, an injected therapy developed by drug giant Amgen. Evenity (romosozumab) is a type of therapy known as a monoclonal antibody, and it helps build new bone by blocking the effect of a protein called sclerostin, the agency explained.

My endo explained that the new drug had shown to cause heart attacks. He was expecting a 6% improvement and is very please that I had 9% new bone growth. I went from severe osteoporosis in my spine to normal in one year.

It is normal for the femurs to improve in the second year. Im so blessed.

Dear Emeraldstar,

Goodness you brought back memories! I remember being horrified that after surgery I weighed 22 lb. more than when I went in!!! After the first few weeks all that fluid build up from surgery just came flooding off. Hang in there and follow the plan. You'll do great!!!
