hey everybody,

if your diabetes hasn't returned in close to 10 years or more, please share your experience.

  • Were you insulin dependent pre DS?
  • How long after your diagnosis did you have the DS?
  • How long after your DS did your sugars normalize?
  • Your common channel length?
  • What's your carb intake like? Have you checked your blood sugar after a carby meal/dessert recently?

For anyone whose numbers might be starting to rise a bit, do you find the DS makes it easier to control your blood sugar?

thanks in advance.

  • Were you insulin dependent pre DS?

No

  • How long after your diagnosis did you have the DS?

3 years. (I am 13.5 years out from surgery)

  • How long after your DS did your sugars normalize?

day after surgery

  • Your common channel length?

100 cm

  • What's your carb intake like?

Small amount (2-3 tablespoons) of bread/rice/potatoes usually at every meal. Pasta almost never. Dessert less than once a wee**** cream twice a week.

  • Have you checked your blood sugar after a carby meal/dessert recently?

My A1c is checked twice a year and it's usually around 5-5.5. Once it was 4.5 and they did 24 hour glucose monitoring. Always low BG, but very low at 2am. Since I tend toward hypoglycemia now, I eat every few hours.

Trying to finish this!

  • How long after your diagnosis did you have the DS? about 20 years.

  • How long after your DS did your sugars normalize? the better part of a year.

  • Your common channel length? 100cm

  • What's your carb intake like? Have you checked your blood sugar after a carby meal/dessert recently? carb intake is not a consideration, though she is gluten intolerant these days. A1c is consistently normal.

Thank you guys for responding. Three more questions if it's okay.

  • What was your age at diagnosis?
  • Do you believe you had impaired glucose tolerance for a while before diagnosis?
  • If you recall your hba1c and fasting numbers at diagnosis, please share.

Last stats I saw many years ago had the DS as a 98% "cure" rate for type 2 -- meaning it never comes back for 98% of the patients that get it.
