Infection??

So my drain was left in a day longer than usual when I had my DS 9 days ago. It still is draining constantly and had not closed. I sent photos to my doctor today who said to start washing it with iodine. I asked if he thought it was infected, but no answer back. I went to MX so I can't really go and have it checked. Anyone have similar issues?

What color is the fluid? Does it smell?

It is kind of orange, but no odor.

Mine wasn't removed for two weeks, and it seeped a little thereafter for a few days. With no stink, it's probably fine. Use a maxi pad as a bandage to absorb the liquid.

I think the iodine will dry out the edges of the wound in addition to keeping out any new infection ( it doesn't sound like you have one but if it is there already I don't think the iodine will make a difference.

I would give it a couple of days and then go to your PCP or emergency. If the drainage starts to smell go right away to emergency. It's an incision you don't have to have any special DS knowledge as a Doc to check for an infection.

I would not worry. If there is no odor, you are fine as it is not infected.

Thank you all for the support. With the holiday and all, I decided to go to my PCP. While I was there and he was examining,what I now refer to as the hole, it sort of popped and white came out. He did a culture and ordered liquid antibiotics. I go back in a week to see if it has closed, so fingers crossed.
