I used to take 250 mg mag oxide with each calcium dose. I had some bad constipation the first couple of months post-op but that seemed to take care of the issue for me.

I'm 4 years now and have stopped the mag oxide without having the constipation return. Now I take Benefiber once a day and plenty of liquids seems to keep me on schedule. :)

I take 150,000IUs of DRY D per day. Every day..and I've done that for years. How much are you taking (or were you taking?).

I take 100K of A as well. I absorb E (400 IUs per day), and K1 (1000 IU), K2 (100)

This is in addition to whatever is in my multi-and I buy high end multis that have a lot of all those vitamins.

  1. Wow... well done. And all your labs are normal? I had my labs mailed to me so I can't remember what my A levels were at, but should be here by tomorrow. Do you buy Dry E & K as well?

am currently taking 200,000 as of yesterday ?. Just looked into a few places here in Sd that will do an IM vit d injection of 600,000.

i wish that there was a way to do calcium infusions! My butt would like that so much better.?

You know... there is another kind of calcium you can try. Calcium apatite. Me personally, I take citrate and apatite and have for years. Apatite is made from ground up bones and it's what the docs in Europe recommend. Baltasar told me to take it. Maybe it might not cause the same issue!

And that's after you get the shot.

My labs are normal. BUT i'm constantly adjusting my vits every year according to my labs. Last year I upped my D from 100 to 150k per day to go from a D of 40 to a D of 80. I had to add a vitamin C suppliment last year, and Iron again (I had stopped that for years, but had to add it back). This year, I have to add in extra K1 and E. (I'm up to 5k of K1 and 800 of E)

You have to get labs done every year. Otherwise you are just shooting in the dark. Whenever I see I trend-I adjust. Your suppliment regime is only as good as your last set of labs.

I'm on the shot- just emailed Dr Rabkin's office in case they didn't get my vm. And I will hound some people locally for one tomorrow too. Thx! I will look into Apatite. Never even heard of it. I can't believe that everybody here doesn't deal with gnarly constipation with all the calcium we need!

Oh I do though. I take two magnesium oxide pills a day, one am one pm and 7 senna stoll softners a day. I take 3,500 calcium a day. I adjust the senna based on how loose or constipated I may be. I used to take 6 but being pregnant led to increased constipation so I take 7 now. I worked with my gastrointestinologist to come up with this plan and it works for me.
