8 months post ds needs guidance

Exactly what kind of stomach problems were you having? I'm guessing a bacterial overgrowth or something of that nature if a round of flagyl cleared it up. I don't see how fiber would help at all with that. Fiber is used to bulk things up.

In mfp...you may not get the numbers to come out exact...but get close. So currently I have mine set to 19g of total carbs...(I don't really care what numbers show in mfp as far as goals...I'm only interested in my daily totals...so while it shows 17g...as long as I stay under 30g I'm happy), 113g of protein and 108g of fat. My calories are at 1500 to get those numbers. (I just looked)

Again, to emphasize...the goals and macro set up in mfp are totally irrelevant. I track everything and look at my totals...I know what I'm aiming for...I don't need mfp to tell me if I'm under or over based on their macros. I ignore all of that part.

I was told fiber helps keep your stomach in balance. . If not than i will stop trying to get fiber in and messing up my carb count.  Maybe 1 probiotic isn't enough?  Ok well i wss trying to eat too few calories again. .  Going to go back to where i was in January before i got sick.  I assume your under 30 is total carbs not net right... thats what i was doing in January. .

Do you use any erythritrol sweetner? Do you count those carbs or 0 for 0 calorie sweetner

My 30g is total...I don't do net carbs.

I don't have any experience (yet) with probiotics. You should maybe start a new thread about probiotics and explain the problem you had and that a round of flagyl cleared it up. I know I hear Florastor and VSL#3 probiotics mentioned a lot. Maybe you need to try a different kind from whatever you're taking.

You do realize that if you don't eat ENOUGH your body is staying in constant starvation mode and will hold on to everything it possibly can for as long as it possibly can. I know that's part of my problem (having had just a sleeve for nearly 5 yrs) and I'm hoping to be able to up my numbers as time goes on as I can fit a bit more in...without overdoing it obviously. I want to keep as much restriction as possible!

I use only splenda for sweetener. If whatever you're using has carbs, then absolutely count them. It's those sneaky hidden carbs that can cause us so much grief!

But see therein lies the problem. They list carbs on the label but the carbs are not the 4cal per gram they are .7 cal per gram. Hence the 0 calories..

I don't keep track of calories or fiber. I'm only worried about protein, carbs, and fat. I don't even really track the fat. I eat plenty so I don't worry about it.

Do u eat veggies and fruit. . Cause i had not been. Ppl say i need a more balanced diet.. with moderate veggies and fruit. I think most ppl like fruits and veggies and eat them normal.  I do not like hardly any veggies and only a few fruits.  Ppl are honestly sick of listening to me buti wish ppl could understand my struggle is real..  i live everyday in fear of regaining.. a tad better than living in fear of not losing the weight which is how i lived till now.  I am close to my goal and trying to get my food in order for long term while still understanding i still have some weight to lose.  I am a picky eater and will not eat food i do not like.  First 5 months post ds i did less than 20gr carb. . Than went up to under 30. . Wad trying to fit 20 gr fiber in to balance out my diet. But that brings me up to under 50gr carbs and im not comfortable with that.. mostly cause this past week with me trying to do this i have been starving.  Veggies and fruit just do not seem as filling as protein and fat. .

I don't know who these people are but stop listening to them. Fruit is loaded with sugar -- CARBS. You don't want or need to eat them (especially in the 1st 1-2yrs) I also don't like veggies and don't eat them. Maybe an occasional asparagus. Eat your protein, drink your water, watch your carbs, and make sure to eat plenty of fat and you'll be fine. I never go hungry, when I'm hungry I eat meat and/or cheese. Just don't overeat and make yourself puke. Many people with DS eat every 2-4hrs like clockwork.

chevtow is correct!

I DO love veggies...but I eat very little of them because of the carbs and because I just don't have the room to eat many of them and still get in enough protein and fat. The ones I do eat are the ones that are lower in carbs. But I don't have them if I haven't hit my protein goals for the day.

I don't eat fruit either...way too many carbs. I gained 15 lbs this past summer (before my revision) and the only thing different I added to my diet was fruit. Lots of watermelon, canteloupe, apples, and grapes. FIFTEEN POUNDS!! I was so pissed!

you are really complicating this more than it has to be, it actually is very simple.  First you concentrate on protein, the amount is different for everyone, just like our vit/mins. your alimentary limb and cchannel lenght would also dictate how much you need, etc.  So simplicity, protein first, fats next, low carb vegies, (low carb fruits only if you have room not necessary at all), good probiotic, I take VSL#3DS and water.  It cant be anymore simple.  stop worrying about maintenance till you are beyond your easy weight loss period of about 18-24 months out, weiht loss will never be as easy as it is then, maximize your weight loss now.  Stay away from the carbs.

If you have a specific question for me, PM me or I will not see it, as I don't check responses on the forums and don't have anything forwarded to my email.
