Need some advice...Is this normal?

Already lots of great suggestions, so I'll just throw in that like you, I had far worse fatigue post-op than I expected. It took at least 8 weeks before I really felt better. My labs were just fine (though I agree with you having them checked, just to play it safe). I also didn't care if I ate or not...really a lot like you.

The only protein drink I could tolerate at the time was the Adkin's drinks that come in liquid form. They are best icy cold. I like the chocolate best, the vanilla is so-so, the strawberry is awful. The best prices I could find were at Walmart. Any dry protein that you mix yourself made me gag.

So I guess my message is hang in there, you are not the only person with this sort of recovery, and you WILL get better.

Keep on drinking stuff with the salts you need.  Like gatorade, etc.

If the shakes make you ill, forget them and try something else.  How about some soup?  Whenever it's not working, try something else!

I lived off of soup seemed like forever and is still my go to food.  It took me forever to find food I could keep down.  I knew the minute I put it in my mouth if it was going to agree with me.  I couldn't even eat an egg.  I eat a lot of soup and I love chili from Wendy's.  You can put unflavored protein into your soup to be sure and get your protein in.  When we start to eat it is a trial and error to find what we can eat.  I still cannot eat meat.  I can only eat eggs with soft runny yolks......with DS you need sauces to keep everything moist so it will go down easier.  Eat tuna salad or chicken salad.....make sure everything is real small in them and you need a lot of mayo for the moisture.  I can eat a little salad with lots of dressing but I am still expermenting to find what I can eat.....I might can eat it once and then unable to eat it again the next time.  Good luck with your journey and keep us posted as how you are doing.

Beemer is right - the nausea and fatigue are common symptoms of dehydration. 64oz is your minimal goal every day.  Try mixing ice and water together, and drink and chomp at the same time so you have a good account of how much you're really getting.

That being said, tired is also normal this early out, too.  A month out, though, the nausea should be well under control.

Hang in there.

I am not going to say your symptoms are "normal" but I want to remind you that you had massive body altering surgery. You have also returned quickly to a labor intense job.

It it took months for me to feel "normal" and energetic after DS. I returned to my desk job after 6 weeks and barely had the energy to just get there and stare at the screen.

At at first eating was blah. I couldn't drink a single protein shake though I tried them all. Eventually I graduated to soft foods like egg salad and tuna salad and soup. For a few weeks I felt nauseated and found tha****ching the food network re-interested me in eating.

Within a year I was on to enjoying whatever I want to eat. Of course I eat some gas provoking things with care but I can basically consume whatever I want to.

At 2.5 years I have lost 100% of my excess body weight and am maintaining it nicely.

You are right to get this checked out but please don't stress out too much!
