Update on 8 months post surgery!!! health , life, and happiness!!!!
Hello everyone! I have been off of the board a couple of months and wanted to give an update. First of all I am down as of today 203 pounds!!!!! This surgery has been amazing and completely life changing for myself and my family. Last night I took my son trick-or-treating and didn't eat all of his candy and sit in the car! I actually walked, ahead of my family listening to them complain for me to slow down instead of whining for me to speed up! I just feel very very happy with the way my life continues to change everyday!
I have had some health issues, as alot of you know. I am one of the unlucky part of the group that has had to deal with colon issues etc. I will say that I ended up having LIS surgery only 3 weeks ago also with hemerroidectomy at the same time!! Not a fun experience. However, I am healing very well, my WLS ( DR. Hamn) actually fixed all of those problems for me as well! And after dealing with those issues from month two to seven, I have made some assessments of my own about them and the relation to my DS surgery. I have a feeling that the two arent as much related even though many of us have these issues post surgery. Just my opinion now and here's why. Always being a heavy obese man of course I was no nutrition expert. All I really focused on during my recovery was protein, protein, protein which in many cases does great. In my case I was prone to hemerroids prior to surgery and I feel that eating a high protein, high FIBER diet may have helped me stay more balanced, and possibly kept me from that CRAZY anal fissure pain i just delt with for months!!! Anyway, I was told from many vets from the beginning to go with the surgery, soooooo glad I did, thanks to all of you guys I feel like this month is the best month of my life since I was in my twenties!!!!!
Last, if anyone here has any colon rectal problems, hems, fissures,etc... message me I would be glad to return the help I was given here on this board! I am very very happy with what has become a situation where I thought I may possibly die from obesity, to actually enjoying life in only 8 months! This is the surgery to change your life!!!It has mine!!!
I have gone from 54 inch waist to 40
was wearing 5 and 6x shirts to 2x
I can walk
I can breath- sleep apnea almost gone
Blood pressure normal
Thanks Everyone!!!!!- MIke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much Shawn, trust me it will be worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!!!! When are you having surgery?
That is awesome Mike! Isn't it amazing how the little joys in life that others take for granted, like trick or treating, can be such a cause for celebration for us?! You are a huge success. Sorry to hear about the other issues but as you said you can be help for others. No bad experiences shared on this board are wasted. We all benefit from them.
I went to Maui with my husband last year. I was 46 years old and it was my first real vacation. I lived it up and enjoyed every small difference in my life today. I went ziplining, parasailing, in a helicopter, sat around the pool in a bathing suit and didn't try to cover up. I had to get weighed for the first two adventures and I didn't even care. I felt so normal. It was also the first time in my life since I was about 8 years old that I wore both dresses and sleeveless tops. I was always the person who was hot, sweaty and in too much clothes for the weather. I had also quit smoking in order to get my DS so flying was sooooo easy. No withdrawal and I sat gladly in the middle seat the whole way reading magazines. Not sure why people hate the middle seat so much. I was just glad to not get dirty looks!
Enjoy your new life and don't forget where you came from! Congrats!
Thank you so so much!!!! I am enjoying every single day with my family and learning there are so many more opportunities then before to actually enjoy in this life! Good luck to you, I am going to do just about everything on your list sometime in the near future!!!! Im ready to just have some fun!!!!!
Wowwww. Mike that is great. Good for you.
I think you are absolutely right to get stuff like this fixed instead of trying to figure out how to live with it.
I have a fistulatomy as an out patient Thursday this week. I'm looking forward to not having a draining
fistula that I have to always be aware of.
