Post Surgery Costs - Living with a DS
That is a true statement, it is cheaper than being obese.
Our grocery bills alone (food excluding protein shakes) has gone way down. I get my protein shakes at Costco, premier, and its only $24 for 18, so I buy two of those. Sometimes they go onsale $4 off so I buy extra.
Vitamins, definitely, BOGO sales when you can. I spend $30-50 a month on those.
We also dont eat out as much, and when I do, I take half home for another meal.
My first year, the surgery cost so much I met my "catastrophic" insurance limit so I dont have to pay anything else this year. I also have insurance that has low cost lab work, so shop around for insurance if you have that option.
Overall, I have noticed our bills going down versus going up. Best of luck

I don't do shakes at all. There might be a couple cans or packets around but I'm sure they are expired. Probably years ago.
I buy most of my vites from Puritan when they have buy 2 get three free sales. I spend about $30 per month on vites. If I find a killer deal on the oil based stuff, I buy it and just take double doses(some people don't absorb enough to do this). I also have to do a calcium ****tail of citrate, carbonate and apatite. I do better on all three but most people just take citrate.
I am ridiculously healthy and seldom go to the doctor. The only DS related problem I have is a hernia I can't afford to fix. I did labs twice the first year and yearly up until year 10. Since then I decided to do it every 2 years. That may be pushing it, time will tell. When it's time to do my labs I order them myself and go get the blood drawn. I do this because it's cheaper! The last time I did the full set was about $900.
