Well Good News

I contacted the surgeon that saved my life in 2007 and also amputated my legs. He is a Bariatric surgeon but took a special interest to me. He moved his practice to S. Dakota but I have been in contact with him off and on. He is going to try to turn this around without surgery. He made me get back on the Metagenics protein and take a smaller supplement of vitamin D3. He is doing this on his own and I sent him my labs. He told me that well I will just quote his last message."We will stay on top of this until a solution is reached and you're feeling better". I really trust this guy, he just happened to see me in the hospital when I was in a coma and everyone else had given up on me. They had already told my wife not to expect me to make it. He pulled me out of the Abyss with supplements and protein in my feeding tube and 2 weeks after that I was awake. My heart during this time was working at 15% which caused the loss of circulation to my feet. I was in pretty bad shape. He did the amputations and did a great job. I have always been able to get a good fit with my prosthetics which is more than I can say for a lot of other amputees who had orthopedic surgeon. He also said if it comes to a revision he would do it and accept Medicare. It's 900 miles  away but not that far these days. I used to live there. Thanks for all the support I got here and I will keep you informed. I feel better already knowing that I have someone who knows what they are dealing with on my side.

I'm glad your trusted surgeon is available again to help you. I'm esp glad he doesn't plan on a revision, because if you had the surgery I believe you had, there is nothing that can be revised, because Dr. Heap was known for removing (not bypassing) about half of the small intestine. If you had had a real DS, the intestinal portion could be adjusted or reversed, but there's no putting back in what's been taken out. If you haven't already, get a copy of the operative report from your bariatric surgery - the hospital where it was done should still have this in your records. Both you and any doctor taking care of you now need to know what was done.
