I think I may be going with the SADI-S or Loop DS.......anyone else had this done?

I remember speaking to Dr Roslin in regards to both surgeries and he felt that if you are a diabetic then the standard DS is the way to go. For me my main issues were HIgh blood pressure and cholesterol. My A1C level started to increase but I wasn't a diabetic...

" When they connect again here it leaves a space that they do close up but it has presented problems with hernia\bowel pushing through."

Okay, I understand how a traditional DS is done, and this mystifies me. A space in WHAT The omentum, perhaps?

"If you have a hard time modifiying your behaviors with food though are you going to be hard headed as well about your labs and vitamin regimen?? It is also a benefit of not as bad gas\diarreaha."

For ME personally it's a LOT easier to toss back some pills four times a day than to resist temptation all day every day, forever. It may be different for others. If I hadn't had a hard time "modifying my behaviors with food" I might never have needed WLS. I'm just SO much better at "doing" (taking vites, getting labs) than at "not doing"---i.e., dieting. (*grin*)

As for the gas and diarrhea---mot DSers don't have anything like as much trouble with that as even some surgeons report. I suggest you talk to actual patients about gas and diarrhea (or constipation!) issues rather than listening to those who don't actually LIVE with a DS.

As long as you understand the differences and feel happy with the SADI, it's fine with me---just keep posting here and reporting your experiences. We need to see people who are 3, 5, 10+ years out.

I hear ya MsBatt on the resisting food thing. But there is SOME malabsorption with the Loop....more than RNY...so I'm hoping it all pans out. I'll keep posting after my 2nd opinion....maybe I'll go for the DS before I'm all done ha ha....

I had this surgery and it has been amazing! I haven't had any complications and my weightloss has been better than I anticipated. I ended up getting pregnant about 3 months out (I know- not advized and no it wasn't on purpose). Despite being pregnant for the majority of my post op experience I have lost 140 lbs and both the baby and I are healthy. My doctor is projecting another 40-60 lb loss over the next 6 months after I have the baby and start breastfeeding. That will put me at a lower weight than high school. I never had reflux until my 3rd trimester and it's been minimal and easily taken care of with a single tums. I love how healthy I have been, that I have had a healthy pregnancy and that I lost the majority of my excess weightloss despite being pregnant.

Would you mind asking your doc what your alimentary limb length is? You can't compare lenghts with the traditional DS....is a whole new ball game. Dr. Sanchez in Madrid was doing 250 but had to revise for too much weight coming off.....my doc wants to do 300....

Thanks!

Mine is 300 and it has been perfect for me. I love that I have never been low on any of my vitamin levels (though I definitely still take my vits) and I have been extremely happy with my weight loss too. I havent been as strict on watching my carbs toward the end of my pregnancy and it hasn't been a problem. Once my son is born I will go back to the diet I had before - so I am glad I have my tool but plan on doing my part too for continued loss / maintanence.

Thanks for checking that...! Congrats on the baby.....I'm glad all went well. Do you mind me asking your surgery date and the numbers SW and CW...?

Odd isn't it....on here...we ask things and discuss things we'd NEVER dream of asking someone outright! :) LOL

I don't mind at all - and yes it's nice to have a safe place to ask questions that I would probably not ask in person. My surgery date was 9/30/3013 and my HW was 357 with my SW at 336. My CW is 216 with 2 weeks left in my pregnancy!!! I am hoping to be about 195ish as soon as I deliver. It's crazy to think about being in onederland soon :)
