Anyone have the SADI aka Loop DS?
I work as a prevention counselor in the school system so when I scheduled the surgery I made sure the Christmas break was close and I went back to work after jan 1. I couldve went sooner but wanted to take care of my health. The only i thing I would suggest is make sure you do labs for the vitamins and if your not feeling well. Call you surgeon and follow what he tells you bc I developed a severe B 1 (thiamine) deficiency. If I did the straight DS ,it would've been woorse for me bc of absorption part. .
Hello, Friend
I had this procedure on 8/13/14 with Dr. Enochs. I have done well post op and have never second guessed my decision to have this specific procedure. I had lost 30 pounds in the two months prior to surgery and have lost another 30 (at the last scale check - I am trying to give up the daily weigh in.) So, I am down 30 pounds in the 6 weeks since surgery. I have followed the dietary guidelines religiously. I did an extra week of the 2 week required pre-op diet (what was I thinking???). I had surgery on a Wed, was off from work the next 2 days and the weekend. I worked from home the following M, T, and returned to work the following Wed, 1 week after. I was quite tired for the 1st 2 to 3 weeks by the end of the work day, but have felt more energy returning these last 2 weeks. I am just walking and doing my stationary bike right now, but am starting at REX Wellness Ctr next week.
I will be happy to respond to any questions if you want to message me, or I will respond here. There is a support group meeting monthly - the information is on the website under "Resources." The next one is tomorrow, Thursday. I have been going for a few months prior to surgery and find them pretty beneficial. Tomorrow's theme is "Ask the Experts" with a panel of one of the surgeons, the nutritionist, a psychologist, and not sure if there are others. It might be a good forum for you to get specific information.
Good luck! I have been reading information from this forum for a few weeks, when I have time. It is full of some great advice, motivational suggestions, some much needed reality checks, good humor and a good mix of diverse opinions. I plan to drop in more often. KP
Hi! I am so glad to hear that you gave had the same surgery from Dr. Enochs! Were you originally going for the bypass or did was this surgery always what you wanted? What kind of side effects have you experienced from this surgery? Do you ever feel hungry?
Hi Chimeraboo,
I was still weighing my options and started reading about the SADI procedure first done in Spain a few years ago, then found out it has been done here for about a year and a half or so. Big surprise that our area is one of the few locations where it is being done in the US. Very tough decision with it being so new, but I felt it was right for me.
I really don't have hunger, but feel like I need to eat if I get off schedule. I eat about every 3 hrs, 5 meals/day. I did have some acid indigestion post op and started prilosec once a day which took care of it. I was on Metformin daily and Victoza daily for Type II DM, but have been completely off of these since surgery with am fasting BS around 105. Yay! Initially getting in enough fluid was challenging, but I progressed pretty well and have not had any problems. I stayed overnight in the hospital and left late afternoon on the 2nd day.
Have you heard from anyone else who has had this procedure? Take care, keep us updated with your progress. I wish you well! KP
Hello and greetings,
I too am considering the DS-Loop and am interested in other patients experiences. I have researched and learned a great deal about the Duodenal Switch, but am now considering going with the Loop. I am concerned about long term weight loss (I'm 469 lbs) and vitamin absorption. One less incision, a 300 cm long common channel together seem like an enhancement to the standard DS, but I need clinical data and want to ensure as much weight loss as possible. Thank you for any response.
Hi, I just had a revision (rny to sips) done 3/16/2015. I had RNY done back on 7/11/2014. I ended up having a marginal ulcer that would not heal and kept me in pain and not being able to eat.
I am currently home and doing ok. I am trying my best to get my fluids in. Tomorrow I will start on full liquids.
Dr. Enochs is also my Dr
I had it last week! My surgeon calls it single anastomosis duodenal switch (SA-DS), I'm pretty sure its the same as what you're talking about. My surgeon gave me a gastric sleeve stomach and 300 cm common channel. Its obviously only been a week, but i've lost about 8 pounds since my morning of surgery weight.
Add me as a friend to message privately if you want :) I don't know what exact details you want about it.
