Resleeve or not during sleeve to DS revision

Hello every one I'm new on here. A little about me had the sleeve in 2012 HW 290lbs lowest 230lbs after 2 years I'm at 250lbs  with having a baby. I'm fully decided on a revision and getting a DS. My surgeon dr.Roslin says my sleeve has stretched but I still have restriction he doesn't want to Resleeve during my revision. My concern is not losing any or adequate weight. I want to lose at least 100lbs. Anyone who has had a revision via sleeve to DS with and without Resleeve please leave me some info on your weight loss stats. Vets please chime in as well along with anyone who has had experience with dr roslin yatco did my original surgery. I want to listen to him since he is the professional with many years under his belt and his concern is the complications associated with Resleeve but at the same time I want optimal weight loss I am not going under the knife again to only lose 30-40lbs will post on the revision board. Thank you all for your input.

I had VSG to DS revision in January...VSG starting weight 294, lowest VSG wt, 215, regained to 278lbs, down 70 lbs in the 6 1/2 months since my revision. My all time highest weight was a shade over 380lbs.

When I was researching the possibility of revision, regrets about not having their sleeve re-sized or at least investigating the need for it, was one of the most common comments I read. When I finally got my turn, I made sure my surgeon was willing to check my sleeve and make any changes should it be necessary. Dr Keshishian said that my sleeve had stretched out at the top somewhat, so he did tighten it up slightly.

I am so thankful I was given the absolute best chance to be successful. I have had no complications and very happy with my experience so far.

In the past couple of weeks, my BMI has just dipped into the overweight category for the first time since I was about 3 months old! I'm in uncharted territory so to speak, so I'm not sure about an exact goal weight until I get there but would say I've got about another 30lbs to goal (pre-plastics). I am 6ft tall.

Wishing you every success.

Thank you for replying Tricia and I am so happy for your success I am trying to do all of my research now so that I don't have to go under a third time. I will talk with my surgeon about it again and hopefully he will reconsider of course I want safety to be a top priority but I also want optimal results. Even with it stretching I still have restriction but my fear is what will happen in another year or two I've already done a barium swallow that shows my sleeve is stretched.

Hello Tricia, if you wouldn't mind could I please ask you a few questions re: vsg-ds?  I am scheduled for surgery and have some concerns.

I would appreciate this so much (tried to send a pm but it shows "private" and I don't know how to do it).

Thank you so much.

Wishing you continued success :)

Someone cleverly shared to get the sleeve portion IN WRITING on the surgery contract. My second meeting was with the PA, and I asked for the original notes from my meeting with the surgeon. He had discussed the resleeve, but had not included it on the contract. I lifted it right out of his notes, added it to the contract, signed it and asked the PA to do the same. The next time I saw the Dr, he said I had added to the contract. "No," I said, "we just added your wording from the notes," and I turned to the pages in the chart. "Pretty close," he said. "Verbatim," I emphasized. Get it in writing!

Thanks D. Switcher I'm glad it all worked out for you and you were adamant. I will ask my doctor to reevaluate my stomach. I will be just as adamant how has your weight loss been so far ?

I recall Roslin telling me that a stand alone sleeve is made small because the patient only has restriction to rely on for weight loss. A DS sleeve is made slightly bigger to allow for the patient's 100 grams of protein daily intake. Keep in mind that you will have the added malabsorption factor to help you reach your 100lb weight loss goal. So maybe your 2yr old sleeve is the perfect size for a DS. At your next appointment ask him to re-state all of the reasons why he doesn't want to re-sleeve your slightly stretched stomach. Then make sure you tell him all of the reasons why a re-sleeve is important to you. Include the fact that you are greatful for a 2nd chance and don't want a 3rd surgery :) He's really good at revisions and you are in good hands.

Best of luck to you,

Mika
