How much time did you take off work?
I had 6 weeks off.

I started with 4 weeks but at the end of that month I just didn't feel like I had the stamina to go back so requested two more weeks. I went back and was tired pretty easily. A part of me thinks I needed another week or two - but then again it was helpful to get back to a routine. But I will say I worked fewer hours - and took a day or two here and there off for about a month. My job is pretty flexible so I was lucky that way. Take as much time as you can - it takes a while to get used to the drinking and all the supplements. No need to push yourself to go back too soon if you don't have to. My opinion anyway. :)
Hi,
I had 4 weeks but then got the flu so had an addition week added. I do have a very physical job also. I cut a few of my days to 6 hour days for the next week or so after that. Good luck with your surgery!

Hi Sandi,
Im scheduled for DS surgery on April 30th as well. I was wondering how much time I will need off too. I actually am having DS and hernia repair done at the same time so they are opening me up insteand of laproscopic. I know I will need prob an extra 2 weeks for that alone. I cant believe its right around the corner. I remember the day I got my approval and the day I was given a surgery date. It was like 56 days away. Now it's like 2 weeks almost away. I go for my pre op visist on April 15th...Thats Tuesday. I am so excited and also just a little bit nervous too. I plan on having a nice dinner tonight as this is my last weekend of regular food...
My job isn't strenuous, but it requires a high energy level, so I took 8 weeks off. I'm so glad I did! I was very listless for a good 6 weeks and spent the final two weeks working on a eating routine for my return to work. I recommend at least a month. Some are more resilient, but better to be safe than sorry.

I only needed 2 weeks off and then I went back at 1/2 days for a week. By the 4th week I was back to full-time 8 hour days.

Mine was done lap; however, I wasn't working at the time of my surgery. Otherwise, I would have been off work about 4 weeks since I have a sit-down job.

I asked the same question a few week ago. My DS was done Lap...and I had no complications. I went back full time at 2weeks. I have a very autonomous job with no physical requirements. The routine was great for getting food, water, and vitamins in. Had I been home I think I would not have gotten the routine down cause I would have slept alllllll day. With that being said...I was very fatigued up until a few day ago. I had to close my office door and take a lunch nap everyday...and went to bed at 7pm everynight (norm is 11pm). Yesterday was my 1 month surgiversary, and my energy is just starting to return to normal. I say take the time that you can and need. But, rather you are home or at work, get a routine that allows you to get your life substance in. Good luck!
Before surgery, my surgeon said 1-2 weeks. After surgery, the follow up Dr said 3 weeks was standard. I went back after 3 weeks but it was HARD! I had a pretty serious hernia repair done too so maybe that was part of the problem. Take as much time as you need, even if that means 1/2 days at first. Your body needs the rest.
