Gallbladder Question
I am 2 weeks post op (DS) and already feel a huge difference! I love it! The surgeon said that they were unable to remove my gallbladder because my liver was still too big. He said I would have to go back in 6 months to have it removed. I trust my surgeon but I'm not looking forward to another surgery if it isn't absolutly necessary. So far I haven't had any issues or discomforts. I was wondering if anyone has kept thier gallbladder and had any issues? If I don't have to, I don't want it taken out.
Good for you. More good to come.
My surgeon left my gallbladder in. There was no talk about taking it out. I asked pre-op and he said he doesn't do that when he does a DS. You might want to push back a little about why your surgeon feels it's necessary. I know many surgeons do take them out during the DS mine just doesn't.
I was on Actigall for 6 months post-op as a preventative for gall stones. I'm almost a year and have had no gallbladder issues yet.
Almost anyone who has been heavy for any period of time has GB problems whether they know it or not. Many people end up needing a subsequent surgery to remove the GB, expensive actigall or not. Our postop diet is usually hi protein and fat. I guess you could maximize the chances of keeping yours by doing very low fat. But you probably will be much less happy with your diet and may not lose as fast.
