Met with the surgeon yesterday.
I'm so sorry you were misled! The surgeon should have been honest with you from the get go. If he doesn't do the DS, or not anymore or whatever, the only reason for him not to tell you this when you clearly told him you wanted the DS was that he didn't want to lose a paying customer and figured he could talk you into RNY eitiher with persuasion or scare tactics. As Pete said, this sucks.
I hope you will be able to appeal to your insurer on the basis that they DO cover the DS (and shame on that doctor or his staff for telling you otherwise and good for you for checking on this for yourself) on the basis that the covered medically necessary care is not available to you in network, with the "network" being your state. Hopefully Dr. Prachand's staff can help you.
Don't give up!

You were a victim of the infamous 'bait and don't switch'. They figure you are desperate and fat and therefore will sign up for anything just to get it done. Sorry but you always have to follow the money and they wanted yours more than they wanted to help you. So they are no great loss especially since the doc is not a DS surgeon.
Ikramuddin and Buchwald are in MN too.
