I never posted an 8 year update ...so instead I'm posting a "i'm just saying" post.

I've been on this board for just over 8 years. I've seen the same posts...posted over and over and over again for over 8 years. People coming on this board...asking if we have BM problems...if they should get the RNY, Band, VSG over the DS etc. I've seen RNYes, VSGers, etc talk about how every surgery is the same, how the DS is terrible...etc etc etc.

If you look back through the boards over the years...you will see common themes...the band.....it slips...it has to be removed.
RNY...dumping, regain
VSG...regain, regain, regain...resleeve...regain
DS....vitamins....more vitamin talk...sometimes we talk about poo and gas...but I'm a guy ...so guys do that anyway...lol. Very little is ever posted about significant regain...not that it can't happen...it's just not that common.

So the question becomes, doesn't anyone do research before they get a major surgery? Look at the themes on the individual boards ....it doesn't take a research scientist to put the pieces together, but if there was someone that wanted to do a research paper, I'm sure they could make a compelling point that the DS is a superior surgery for maintaining weight loss long term. (FYI there are long term studies out there...LOTS that show this to be true...but sometimes the personal stories are more impactful).

Did I have any regain after the DS. Yes I'm up about 20 lbs from my lowest (same as last year). I absolutely hate it....but i knew it would happen when I started. Everyone bounces back a bit. Do I even give it a 2nd thought throughout my day...no. I barely think about WLS anymore. I pop my vits. I drink lots of liquids. I eat lots of protein...and my life has moved on from the endless cycle of weight loss and regain.

It's made a huge difference in my day to day life not to have that huge weight (no pun intended) on my shoulders everyday.

Nice post. I did my research and found the same thing which is why I chose the DS. I am happy I did. =)

Ditto! I researched for nine months, thought I wanted the RNY, stumbled across a couple of wls sites, and started reading, and reading. Im not kidding when I say I was doing this all day long, and into late night and early morning, for nine whole months. I didn't know what the DS was. Thank you to this site and DS facts, and a couple other wls sites out there. I know If this would have been years ago before the internet, I would have ended up with the RNY....... Uhg, thank the lord above that didn't happen....lol

I missed you Scot!!!

I, too am up about 20lbs, but not hating it.  I had to buy some new clothes, but nobody's giving me those concerned looks, mom says I no longer look like a scarecrow, and I got my D-cup back (hubby is pleased).

It's posts like this that I really wish that OH had a [Like] button.

I didn't mean to drop off the map, life has changed for the better since surgery and I've been so busy!

I've actually wanted to lose the 20 lbs for over a year...but just haven't done anything about it. It's not a huge deal...but since plastics i regain all my weight in weird places (but and chest)..which is great if I was a woman..but I spent 20 years trying to get rid of moobies...lol. I had to get my motivation back! I've returned to the Dark side for some newbie excitement..hoping that it rubs off.

It's nice to have another long-timer out here.  I work out of town, so usually poke in on the weekends when I'm home.  This week was special because it was one of those precious work from home weeks.

I work on the road too, but I have found that my Ipad with LTE and a keyboard makes magic happen! Now if they will only come out with an IPAD Pro with LTE that will run a full version of office I'd be in heaven! I hate carrying my ipad and macbook...sooooo heavy...lol.
