Thanks.

I do get my FULL 150g of protein in daily. I drink my protein as my main source and anything else  with protein that  I eat adds to it. Many DSers drink their protein.

When I do eat fruit I eat small amounts. I like fruit. I do not deprive myself fully. It keeps me from picking up a candy bar and is healthier. I work out three to four times a week so the added energy is good. I work the small amount of carbs/sugars off.

Like I said I stay within my carb range. It works for me. I am losing and I am healthy.

I will edit my original post so people do not think I am trying to persuade her to eat fruits. That is far from the truth.

I do understand how sugars and carbs work with the DS. I did my research. This is on DSfacts.com. I just had to post it in the forums last week. Pretty kewl stuff. This explains why diabetes disappears after surgery and why we do not turn carbs and sugars to fat like a normal anatomy does. This stuff fascinates me.

Metabolic Effect

The following information on the metabolic effect of the Duodenal Switch procedure was provided with permission from Dr. John Husted.

In addition to the effect of dietary restriction and malabsorption, Duodenal Switch has a metabolic effect to affect weight loss and improvement in health as well. The portion that food passes through - the alimentary limb - has the ability to absorb protein and sugars. This portion of intestine also has the ability to secrete a hormone - GLP-1, or Enteroglucagon - in the presence of undigested food. Since this portion of intestine is presented to undigested food earlier on as a result of the anatomic re-arrangement induced by Duodenal Switch, secretion of GLP-1 is enhanced. Enteroglucogan (GLP-1) has the effect of suppressing the secretion of insulin in response to a carbohydrate meal, resulting in a lesser amount of ingested carbohydrates being converted to body fat.

The portion of intestine that is bypassed holds an important role as well. Enterogastrone is a hormone that is secreted by the upstream small intestine when food passes through it. This hormone has the effect of converting food to fat. When the upstream portion of the intestine is bypassed - as is the case with Duodenal Switch - enterogastrone secretion is suppressed. The effect of this bypass is that the patient's body after Duodenal Switch has less of a tendency to convert food to fat.

Forget the healthy low-cal veggie stuff, you need protein!  Think of fat and protein as free food.  Carbs are what you do not need!  There is no way to get the protein you need eating three meals a day.

Most likely you are going to have to get on real vites ASAP.  What you are taking is not enough.  As others said, go to vitalady.com and look at the DS package.  And no gelcaps.  Water miscible only because we don't absorb fats.
