I think protein snacks are fine no matter what they said about breaking the habits. Just make sure your snacking with the right stuff. The reason you're snacking is just to increase your protein - not satisfy an emotional craving like the Nutritionist is worried about.

I have to admit when you commented about no cal / low cal snacks I was worried about where you would go with that.

Have you tried double scoop shakes?

i used to make my own shakes with greek yog and protein powder and milk, but they turned out to have way more calories somehow than the one i drink now.  my current shakes are 160 cal, 30g protein, 4g carbs.  i figure thats not too bad.  i guess ill just have to drink more in a day.  apparently my dr said shakes dont count as meal, but as liquids, so i can have as many a day as i can handle.

Okay, that's what I thought on the vitamins.  You're going to want to look into Vitalady's dry forms of the fat soluble vites.  The all-in-one ADEK's that your surgeon is selling you?  They are **** no good.  Your D and A will tank on those, probably at a year out, if not sooner.  I'd be surprised if they have any A in them at all.  Any vitamin with "bariatric" in the name is usually your first clue it's going to be over priced.  But definitely start tailoring your separate A, D, E, and K doses according to your most recent lab results.

Get a copy of your labs every time you get them done.  Chart them yourself on a spreadsheet, and tweak your dosages accordingly.  If you need help, post on the vitamin thread.

what is the "dry" form?  i see it but how is it different from a regular vitamin?  will i have to buy each vitamin separately when i am low in one?

You need the "dry" form of your fat soluble vitamins D, E, A and K.  They are normally sold in clear gel capsules, which are oil or gel based oil, which you now know as a DSer you will malabsorb 80% of.  So you're buying oil based vitamins, and basically just making really expensive poop with them.  Vitalady sells the dry forms, and you can find them elsewhere as well.  Someone on a Facebook forum just posted that her surgeon wrote a prescription which she was able to fill for DRY D3 at a Kroger pharmacy, which was the first time I've ever heard that happen.  Usually prescription D is 50,000 oil based, which is NOT what we need.

And, yes, once you get your labs back and read them, you will quickly realize (if you do the math) that you're going to need to take like 100 of the little ADEK all-in-one bariatric vitamins to get even close to what you need in your D, which will put you ridiculously over what you need for E and K.  Ditto on the vitamin A.  Most of us need to heavily supplement D and A, but not so much E and K.  So, again, the FAT SOLUBLE vitamins A, D, E and K need to be in dry form, not oil based or gel.

Also, you might want to try the canned chicken mixed with mayo, sour cream and greek yogurt with a little sweet pickle relish.  I make mine on the soupy side, with curry powder and celery salt.  I do my egg salad the same way.  It's the ONLY WAY I can get eggs down, other than deviled eggs.

what if i take the bariatric advantage that ive been taking in normal fashion, and then supplement with the dry A and D?  i seem to get enough of the other vits, except iron that i need a special pill for.  this is so complicated, i dont see why they cant just make decent bariatric vitamins that cover all the bases rather than have us buy and take a ton of pills.

the chicken recipe sounds good, i might be able to get the eggs down that way.  thanks!

I eat about every two hours all day long. I also drink two to three protein shakes on top of all that. Sometimes double scooped for added protein . Most of my protein is consumed through shakes what I eat with protein in it just adds to it. If I ate only three times a day I would literally starve to death. I work out too much 3 to 4 times a week and require more calories and energy. I get AT LEAST 150g a day easily.

(I edited my post and deleted an example of my menu, which was not intended to guide the original poster on how to eat but rather to show that I eat every two hours.  I eat a small amount of fruit daily and I did not want any vets to think I am trying to convince the original poster it is okay to eat fruit.)

in one day I eat...

Protein shake

Yogurt

banana

protein bar

Turkey and cheese snack

protein bar

more turkey and cheese

banana

Protein shake

then dinner which can consist of whatever I am craving, small taco with lots of meat and cheese on a corn shell, or taco salad, chicken breast and baked sweet potato. Of course I can only eat about half of these meals so guess what?? I eat the other half two hours aFter so two dinners.

orange or apple peeled

cheese stick OR NUTS

protein drink

56-64 ounces of water

I eat ALL DAY LONG. IT IS EXTREMELY EASY TO GET 150G OF PROTEIN IN BUT I REALLY DO NOT COUNT. I KNOW I AM GETTING ENOUGH WITH MY SHAKES AND THE REST IS JUST CAKE =)

You might want to check how many carbs are in your bananas and other fruits.  Bananas are horrendous for carbs.

18g of carbs in a small banana is not all that horrid. I eat organic small bananas less than 6 inches. They seem to help with my bowels and help me with potassium. It is okay for me to have good carbs as long as I am not eating too many. One to two bananas a day is not going to hurt me. DS diet in fat burn mode is 50g or less. I get between 50 and 80g a day which is not bad. I am still losing. The oranges I eat are the small cutie mandarin oranges with only 9g of carbs. This list of foods is not something I eat every single day. It was just an example of how I eat all day. I mix it up and may have an orange and a banana one day or just an orange or just a banana. I do eat one piece of fruit every day though including apples. If I were eating bread, pizza etc, I would worry about my diet but I eat healthy. When I make carb choices it is good ones.

That entire day above was a total of 81carbs. All healthy foods. I made my required protein as well but was lacking just a bit in fat. Maybe I should have explained that I eat the mini dole organic bananas and small cutie oranges. =)

Fruit is sugar is carbs.  You don't NEED fruit, you need protein.  Especially during your weight loss honeymoon window.  Half a regular banana is one serving of fruit.
