Calcium Lab Help

I had my labs done last August and Dr. L thought my calcium was a little low and wanted a 6 month lab to see if it improved.  I'm really not sure how much different the new labs are or what to look for.  I've been on a prescription to help the body absorb calcium.  Here are my new levels.

Calcium 9.7---August it was 9.3

PTH INTACT 31---August it was 43

Vitamin A  63---August it was 52

Vitamin D Total  69---August it was 67

Vitamin D3   72---August it was 76

Does it look like I'm going in the right direction?  Should I increase my A and D?  I haven't heard from the doctor yet.

Thanks for all your help,

Ruby

Your D3 is trending down, start taking more of that.  Stay the course with the A.  You must be taking the correct amount of calcium, because your parathyroid hormone is trending down, like you want it.  PTH (parathyroid) you WANT low.  D3, A, calcium, you want those HIGH.  Are you taking DRY vitamin D?

Thanks for your reply.  I was taking one of the Dry D3 50,000 per day but this month I added another one every other day.  18 months ago my D was at 107 and they thought it was too high so I backed down.  Still trying to find the sweet spot on the D.  When it got high I was taking 2 of the D 50,000 per day.

You might also try adding some dry vitamin K2. It works with D3 and seems to help the D3 absorb. I take 600mcg a day of Vitalady's K2 and I'm getting good results on D3 and my bone density scans.

Thanks Gina.  K1 and K2 is on my list to order from Vitalady.  I've been doing my pills monthly now and it seems to work for me but it is a little harder to tweak mid month.  I know Vitalady sells prepackage plans but do you know if she has it written down what we should be taking in each batch?  You would think after 7 1/2 years I would be an expert at this but I'm not.  :(

Here is what I'm currently taking per day.  Most are from Vitalady.

Calcium  12/day

Boron 4/day

Vit. A 3/day

Vit D3 1/day but have added another 1 every other day

Centrum Silver 2/day

Magnesium Citrate 4/day

Vit E 1/day

Folic 1/day

Zinc 1/day

Osteo-Tech 1/day

That is what a normal day is for me.  Can you see where I should add or subtract from this list besides the K vitamins?  I was also adding a B but I didn't like the form I got so I need to find a different source.

Thanks for always being on this board, I appreciate all your help.

I think your plan looks good. When you get your K2 take one in the AM and 1 in the PM, don't stop your Osteo K for bit until after your next labs. Link to Vitalady's schedule: http://www.gblcreations.com/Resources/Gina/ProgramDRNY_ERNY_ BPDDS3-2010.pdf  I alter mine a bit and take iron mid-afternoon away from everything else.

Thanks for the link to her schedule, it gives a better view of how many A and E I should be taking.  Are you taking K1 also or just the K2?  From this I'll make a list for my next months worth of pill and won't feel like I'm filling them in blindly.

I take both. K1 is for the blood and K2 is for bones. Good luck!  :)

Ruby,

Is that 12 calcium citrate at 250mg each for a total of 3000mg?

How many mg are the osteotech, zinc and mg citrate

In addition to Gina's advice, you want to do magnesium citrate in a 2:1 ratio, so that means that if you're taking 600mg calcium then you should 300mg magnesium citrate.

You should also take 3mg boron a day.
