We are almost 4 hours from the hospital I will have my surgery at.  My DH is planning on taking vacation to go with me.  He is not good at just sitting around and I don't want him to use half of his vacation days just sitting in my hospital room.  I have been thinking about driving myself up and then on day of discharge driving to my daughters which is at the halfway point from the hospital and home.  Then the following day drive the other 2 hours from her house to home.  Is that too crazy?

Hadn't thought about that.  Not to mention I am sure I will still be on some strong pain meds.  Guess my poor hubby will have to make the best of it.

Leave anything of value either at home or in the hands of your relative. There are just too many people at any hospital to leave valuables lying around.

I was alone for my surgery and did just fine. But everyone is different and you must do what is comfortable for you.

My husband also had to work when I had my procedure.  I'm not sure if he left during the procedure or if he waited until it was over.  Either way I didn't see him until the next day and I did just fine.  I was too loopy to be of any entertainment.  The staff took care of my every need.  I'm sure someone will be willing to give him a call to let him know you're okay.
