Hello cariedawn!!! Actually, no not bypass. This is the d/s (duodenal Switch Forum). Gastric bypass has its own forum under surgery type menu on left side on main page. I am a newbie just had surgery a week ago. But I would suggest looking at info on this forum for ds switch just to be informed. They are completely different surgeries both very intense but for someone like myself that has dealt with weight loss problems my whole life(IM 41 now) I felt it is a way better personal choice than bypass for me. The long term maintenance and success rate of the d/s switch is much higher than that of bypass, actually it is the highest longterm success of all weight loss surgeries to date. I read and studied around 2 years before getting this surgery and I truly feel i just changed my life forever. Now people are very opinionated about what surgery they prefer and thats why its great to have this forum. Use the search to look up long term goals met, complications and overall success of all of the surgeries before making your decision. I like facts. I trust people, but clinical studies can give you the best info for each surgery. I am very heavy, was 478 at highest and knew this was the only surgery based on facts that I felt I could count on it to do its part if I do mine. Good luck! Also I don't mind talking and discussing these surgeries in greater detail, however, I am not a doctor so I advise you to look at all studies before making your decision. Keep in mind d/s surgery has been around a long time but very few surgeons do it, do to skill level, etc. depending on where you live I'm sure you can google or search in this forum someone in your are that may do it!! Have a great day!- Mike PS  dont be nervous!!! search and learn info you will do fine!!!

Congrats, Mike!  I wish you a speedy and uneventful recovery.  I am starting my 4th week post op.  Like you, I stayed longer in the hospital and loved that my doc was for it.  It is amazing how fast the weeks seem to fly bye.  Glad you are doing well.

I have felt re-markedly well since I gave up pain meds.  They just made me so foggy headed.  Actually, I got out of the hospital on a Friday and went to work on Monday for a few hours each day that week.  That is how good I felt.  This week I was able to start soft foods and leave the pureed foods, but  I haven't tried anything yet though.  My tummy hasn't wanted much the last few days.  So figure no rush.
