First off....I'M POST-OP!!!! I had a few issues with gas and my iv. I'm allergic to steroids and penicillin so the normal meds they give to help with the inflammation to help ease out the gas was a no go for me. With that being said I had to stay a couple extra nights at the Hospital. I still feel REAAALY BLOATED. I feel like I have gained at least 4 pant sizes since the operation despite all of the walking I have been doing.

I was wondering how long the bloating after surgery normally lasts.

From what I understand, only a few days, but you need to walk and wiggle it out.

My surgery was open, so it wasn't an issue for me.

I had so much bloating that I felt I weighed 20 pounds heavier!!  I listened to the Vets and stayed off of the scale.  I lost most of the bloat within a week.

First goal 120.0: 12/7/13  Final goal 115.0 (114.6):  2/6/14

Thank you everyone for the welcome homes and responses. I was finally able to start passing some, I no longer feel like I gained 4 pant sizes. My first check up is on the 17th! hopefully then I can start on soft foods!

Hi- I am a newbie conversion from rny to ds on 2-24-14. I was bloated beyond belief after surgery. I asked the dr for lasix and even that did little to make a dent. But the day after I got home from the hospital I started peeing like it was a contest and, after a few days I am down to almost normal. Not sure what kick started it, but it did resolve itself fairly quickly once it started.
