So I am 3 weeks out from surgery.  I learned today that I had a 40 french bougie and a 125-150 cc.  I weighed 373 the day of surgery so of course I have a lot of weight to loose.  In layman's terms what does the size of bougie and commen channel mean? Is this a good size for weight loss?  Thanks in advance.

I don't think these sizes are bad for weight loss. The french bougie is just a type of measurement they use on the instruments that are used to size your new stomach. I think mine was 35 and I have seen people talk about 30 and 40 sizes. It has a little more to do with how much you can eat at one time without making yourself uncomfortable.

The CC length is how much space is left where certain types of absorption take place. It's also the cahnnel where food and stomach acids mix. (I think I have that right - you might want to double check on DSFacts.com) I've seen a lot of people talk about lengths from 125 - 150 so yours doesn't seem out of line. They can run anywhere from 75 - 200. Some of the vets have a 50 length. Strictly speaking the shorter the channel the more malabsorption you will have. Practically, this can vary by individual. Some people just absorb more than others even with the same CC size.

I hope your starting to feel better after surgery. At 3 weeks I was still pretty sore but could tell I was getting a little better every day.

simplistically, the size of the stomach helps with the weight loss.  The shorter common channel provides the malabsorption that helps it stay off.  This is how the DS works long term over other restriction only surgeries, like the VSG
