How much protein should a female be eating at 3 months out?
That seems kind of low to me. Is your nutritionist taking into account that we only absorb 60% of the protein we eat?
I found this information:
How to Calculate Your Protein Needs:
1. Weight in pounds divided by 2.2 = weight in kg
2. Weight in kg x 0.8-1.8 gm/kg = protein gm.
Use a lower number if you are in good health and are sedentary (i.e., 0.8). Use a higher number (between 1 and 1.8) if you are under stress, are pregnant, are recovering from an illness, or if you are involved in consistent and intense weight or endurance training.
Example: 154 lb male who is a regular exerciser and lifts weights
154 lbs/2.2 = 70kg
70kg x 1.5 = 105 gm protein/day
~~~~~~~~~~~
But remember: we only absorb 60% of the protein we eat, so you need to increase that number by dividing it by 0.60. So in the example above, 105 grams of protein equals 175 grams for a DSer.
I'll use my numbers as another example. I weigh 148 pounds currently and I'll use the "sedentary" number.
148 lbs / 2.2 = 67.2 kg
67.2 kg x 0.8 = 54 grams of protein
54 grams / 0.6 = 90 grams of protein per day
That is if I'm sedentary. If you are exercising or lifting weights, your protein needs will be greater.
Hope that helps!
Impressive results Shift.. congrats.
My nutritionist also said 100 grams min daily.. But if you will watch Major Mom's "Bites" threads she and others break down their daily intake. I've really like the balance I'm seeing on that thread and I if I'm not mistaken she i****ting approx 120 grams daily with protein supplements without even counting her actual food protein. It's a great way to see how people are approaching their daily lives.
My minimum is 120 grams in shakes and all the protein food I want. If I slip below 120 grams in shakes for any length of time my albumin and prealbumin slip on my labs. I'm not crazy my dietitian had me tested. : )
