I have been having difficulty on and off with swallowing capsules. I would swallow a capsules and feel like it was stuck at the base of my throat. It feels like its just sitting there at times. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you know what causes it and how to manage it?

I didn't but I've heard of others having the issue. Some folks issues got better once they were able to glup water again and some failed miserably to deal and just gave up becoming malnourished due to lack of proper supplementation. You might ask the surgeon for a scope procedure to see if anything is amiss. Wishing you good luck and I hope others might have some experience with it.

I'm pouring most of my supplements in my shake and using chewable for others.  Now way am I going to risk vit deficiencies.

I have had this problem as well. It helps to be attentive to what you are doing (my mind often wanders after a pill or two) and also to tip your neck forward, not back.

Thanks Larra. I try to be really mindful but it still happens. I try to put most of my vita in my shake and eat chewable a for others.  When it gets bad though food-solid foods- also get stuck. I try to avoid swallowing capsules to avoid this. Did you ever find out the cause?

No specific cause that I know of.

I was looking at some old posts and someone had similar symptoms and upon completion of an upper GI it was determined that her esophagus was stretched out during an endoscopy. There is also something called esophageal dysmotility that a lot of band patients and apparently some sleeve patients have developed post surgery that creates similar symptoms as well.

Try filling your mouth with liquid first, tilt your head back and drop the pill in - then swallow all together.  I never even feel the pill.
