Hi guys! I am a hopeful lap to DS candidate. I'm currectly in the process of getting my preop tests done. Anyways, I'm trying to get educated on the amount of vitamins I'll need daily. I found this powder product thst requires 3 scoops of powder daily for DS patients ( Here is the link to see the powder. ). Has anyone used this product? Did it fulfill your daily vitamin intake?

Thank you!

Becca

it would not work for me for the following. Reasons:

there is only 1000 mg of calcium in 3 scoops. We need a minimum of 1500 mg of calcium a day so you will have to take at least 6 scoops to get a little over the minimum.

calcium and iron have to be taken at least 2 hours away from each other, they cancel each other out. So you will have to take extra of one or the other, which makes some of this a wasted product.

It doesn't say what kind of calcium it is,my bet is it is calcium carbonate, which is cheaper to use,but also. Is. Not as bio available.

There is just a minimum amount of most other vitaminsin this. Most of us take way more than this of many of the vitamins, esp things like bit d and b12. Taking a mixed product like. This doesn't allow for tweaking each individual vitamin according to what your labs are saying you need.

Thanks so much! I think it was just the "convenience factor" that had me tempted :)

Thanks again for you help,

I'm with Hollykim on this.  It looks pretty worthless for a DSer. The D doesn't even specify if it's D2 or D3 (we need dry D3) and the amounts aren't anywhere near what we need everyday.  Don't fall for the claims of simplicity from designer bariatric vitamins.  It just can't be done.  I fell for my surgeon's line of product that she resold to patients and watched my numbers fall through the course of 3 months, and that was 12 capsules a day.

If you want to find a good starting vitamin regimen, check the collection from vitalady.com.  She has real vitamins that are spaced out through the day, but nobody that started with her regimen has gone deficient that I can recall.  As you get your labwork during the first year, you may find that you don't need as high dosages, and back off accordingly on some.

Powders, chewables, and liquid vitamins aren't necessary.  I was taking pills the day I got home.  It was slow at first, but I quickly adapted.

Thank you Valerie! One of the reasons I was looking at a powder was because I wasn't sure if I could choke down so many pills right after, but you gave me my answer : ) I'll check out vitalady.com :)

I second what the others said.  Most of us on here are on at least 50,000iu of dry vitamin D - some are on as much as 150,000.  I do 4,000mg of calcium.  The stuff you want it here https://vitalady.com/vitanews/pre-packaged-regimens/  You're after the DS packages.

Becca! Hey. I'm still pre-op. Scheduled for March 10th. I've been researching TONS of vits. I did come across this one and spoke with a friend and fellow DS'r of mine that uses it. Everyone told me to stay away from it and honestly I believe it's excellent advice. My friend uses it without problems and her levels are great. Never any issues. HOWEVER, vits aren't something to mess around with. AT ALL. What works for one may not work for another. Everyone's advice to me is this: it's extrememly hard to bring vit levels back up once they're in the tank. I don't want mine to end up in the tank. So I decided to stay away from this product.

I wil have to get creative though, bc I have a VERY hard time with pills. Somedays I throw up when taking them (which also does NO good). I believe that some of the vitalady pills can be crushed or capsules opened as well. I'm still researching vits and trying to decide on what I want to try out.

My surgeons office mentioned bariatric advantage vitamins...  My surgery is on the 24th of this month and I am preparing, has anyone used their vitamins? Any thoughts?

the problem with them is the same as the problem with the all in one that the original poster posted about. The answers she received apply to the bariatric advantage as well.
