Accountability, simple carbs, constipation. Advice requested.
I'm 8 weeks out. Since surgery, I usually "go" every morning shortly after waking up. I've noticed lately things have been getting a little more solid. I attribute that partly to being 2 months out and partly to vites. I don't pay much attention to fats in my diet, but I don't seek out low fat anything either. I've followed the rules pretty religiously, except last night I had pretzels. One or two would have been fine, but I ate way too many and this morning was the first time I didn't "go" upon waking.
I'm holding myself accountable. I shouldn't have done this. I acknowledge I did it to myself and no one else is to blame for my poor choices. I also acknowledge there will be bumps in the road. I'll screw up, but where before I'd let the guilt take over and I'd completely give up, this time I'm picking myself back up, dusting myself off and getting back on track. I've put the rest of the pretzels down the disposal and I'm moving forward. It's all part of the process of learning. For now, I can't have stuff like that in the house.
Anyway, what I need help with is whether it's better to get things moving again with milk of magnesia or should I add some extra fats? If so, what are some good sources of extra fats? I'm so used to eating low fat everything from my dieting days, that I am having a hard time thinking of high fat foods that I like, that won't give me the oil slicks. For example, and this is going to come as a shock to many, but I don't like bacon. Caso dip gives me really, really awful oil slicks. I'm open to other ideas.
Forgive yourself for the pretzels and move on. Really, at 2 mos out, I doubt you ate more than a couple. In fact, as I was losing, I would allow such indulgences AFTER I finished a decent portion of protein. Ricotta cheese, brie, and my favorite...butter are all good sources of fat. Also, a good ribeye steak has great marbling. There's all kinds of choices for you. Do the MOM, and follow with some more fat now that you're eating more.

I wouldn't worry too much about not going in the morning. I bet it will catch up with you tomorrow. If you have constipation pain and it is prolonged, then its a sign to add more fat (or magnesium). For now, rest easy and give it another day.
I drink butter coffee in the morning...two cups is two pats of butter. Now before thinking YUCK, if you add cream think, what is butter but cream that has been churned!
I also add bacon grease to most veggies (good Southern cook here), add butter, use full fat everything, mayo/dressing/etc. Once you get out of the low or no fat mindset, it's easier to add fat. Another that is harder to do, find full fat yogurt. Most kids yogurts are full fat. And sometimes you can find them. We have a local grocery store that does carry ONE brand of full fat yogurt.
