NEWBIE....what am I doing wrong?

I'm new here. I had my surgery on 12/13/13. I have been having issues with constipation for the last week and despite getting at least 64oz of water in per day I'm barely urinating. My weight has been stalled for the last 3 weeks. I make sure to get in my protein and all my vitamins. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would contact your doctor. I can't imagine the urination issue is normal or the constipation this early out. I wasn't solid until about 2 months out.

I, too, would be concerned about the urination thing.  That's not normal.

For the constipation, Milk of magnesia can help.  You may need some extra magnesium to counteract the constipating effects of calcium, and more fat in the diet can work wonders, too.  If you're trying to eat low fat....stop.  Eat only full-fat foods for a bit.

Are you taking all your calcium? Calcium can be very constipating. MajorMom can help you with that. At two years out, I have never had that problem.

As far as the drinking and urination, if you truly aren't going to the bathroom, then you need to get to the dr asap. At 64 oz a day, you should have no problems peeing all day.

As far as the weightloss, you are stalled and that's normal. You will never lose weight at a perfect level rate (some people refer to this as stair-stepping). You will stay the same weight for a while and then boom, drop five or ten pounds quickly.

Some swear to break a stall, they eat a crispy creme donut. I never tried it; I was just compliant and let my DS do its thing.

My biggest concern is your lack of urination. Evaluate how much you are truly drinking and how often you are going. If you really arent going very much (and you certainly aren't losing fluids from diarrhea), then I would see your doctor.

If you are truly taking the full supplement regimen this early . . . that's a lot of calcium and I can tell you from experience that it WILL likely constipate.  I'd recommend Miralax.  One nightly dose keeps me pretty comfortable.  The urination concerns me.  It is easy to get dehydrated early out.  I would definitely go to the doctor regarding that.  This may be TMI, but note the color - you want to go for palest yellow to clear.  If it's lemonade looking or (worse yet) heading towards gatorade orange, that's not good.  Please let us know how you're doing.

I had surgery 11/20/13. I ran into the 3-week stall and panicked. Don't worry. The stall is totally normal. I've found that my body will go weeks with little loss, then BOOM, 10 lbs down practically overnight. Everyone's body is different, so just keep doing what you're supposed to be doing and make note of your personal patterns.

About the not peeing, definitely get seen ASAP. Sometimes anesthetic can slow your kidneys down for a few days, but you're far enough out that you should be peeing all the time if you're getting at least 64 oz a day. Some medications can prevent you from peeing too, so make sure you tell your doctor what you're taking. Don't assume he read your chart. Take a list.

Best of luck and Please keep us posted.

Surgery date 11/20/13 with Dr. Jaime Ponce De Leon, Tijuana, Mexico.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I know most of you are concerned about the urine but I was more concerned about the constipation this early after surgery. My surgeon does not have me on a calcium supplement yet. My urine is not really concentrated when I go. I just find it strange that I use to go more often before the surgery not it's only about 4-5 times a day. I didn't know if that was common after this surgery. I have an appt with surgeon on Thursday the 23rd.
