Is anyone on this site from the Lafayette,La area . It is very lonley here and none of the Dr's are familiar with the DS .They do not understand the importance of labs and they have no clue what to look for. All they know is if I'm in the numbers....even low numbers it is ok labs. Very frustrating .I also have BM complications and the gastric Dr are also clueless . Sure would like some help in finding a good DR or even a DS friend to talk to from here.

Thanks for your help if you can

Dr. Stewart was my doctor.  Since his passing I started using his partner, Dr. Aayola.  I had my ds a month ago.  I know you would have to do some driving to get to him, but I would highly recommend him.  I'm lucky...he's only 5 min. from me!  But I would drive hours!!!  He's in Frisco Texas.

It may be worth at least one drive to Dr. Stewart's protege to get some information to share with your PCP.  They've got to be willing to take some time to learn.  Some get excited about that, while others..notsomuch.  If he's not one of those who wants to know more, it's time for a new PCP.  When you've got one who wants to know, provide them with the information they need.  Get a list of the labs required from your surgeon.  Get yourself familiar with the lab values.  Get a copy of them for yourself every time you get labs.  The ranges are a decent guideline, but you want to be paying attention to the numbers and comparing them to your last labs, looking for downward trends. My docs' office didn't bother to do that, and I was catching numbers dropping before they become a problem.
