Runny nose while eating

Since my surgery I noticed I get a runny nose every time I eat. What's that all about?

For me it's usually a sign that my pouch is full and I should stop eating.  At times I also sneeze as well and sure enough, I have eaten enough!

IF you have a pouch, you have a RNY not a DS...

I've only had this when I really, really over ate.  It's happened twice in 1 year.

When I over eat a little, I will get hiccups.  If I shoot right past the hiccups, my nose starts running.  Then a couple more bites and I start to salivate more... right before the big heave.

I used to get the hiccups now I sneeze EVERY time I eat.  It always almost happens while I have food in my mouth.  It has come on so quickly a few times that I spit food all over the place.  So gross and weird!

This is now my norm. I experience it all day long to different degrees. In the beginning I thought it was when I was full, but now I could have one bite, or take my vites, or just have a drink, and it happens.... every once in awhile I do the on going sneezing attack to. That usually happens if I eat something really solid, and dry, and its kind of stuck and sitting there. These are both things my Dr. told me about before surgery, and he said they are not really sure why it happens, because it doesn't happen to all people. When my nose runs, its always really thin, and reminds me of post nasle drip.... I don't feel worried about it, I think its just part of this surgery....

I am pre-op and my nose runs any time I have a hot meal (meaning warm, not spicy). I always have to blow my nose as soon as I finish eating.

Has been happening for years. I had read it was some type of sinusitis but now hearing these posts on it...I wonder.

Hi all,

I have the same issue, I wondered if I should invest in allergy pills, but I see it is common with the surgery, I guess it is just one of those things.

Thanks for everyone's sharing, it helped and encouraged me.

Nov. 14/2005 I have reached the 10 year mark and I am very glad I had this surgery and can live a normal life.
