It's really happening!
I am thrilled to say I FINALLY have a surgery date – Thursday, January 23rd.
I am blessed to have Dr Keshishian doing my revision (from VSG).
I was about 20-30lbs from my goal weight a year after the sleeve surgery (almost 4yrs ago) when I was injured in a car accident. Unfortunately, one of the many medications caused a 68 lb weight gain which I’ve been unable to lose. My goal now is to lose additional 100lbs.
I’ve been big my entire life – 32lb @ 1yr, 184lb in grade 4, 290lb @ 12yr to a high of 380lb+ in my late 20’s (unsure of exact highest wt as I was required to weigh at a trucking company - the hospital scales didn’t go above 350lbs at the time!).
For me, the DS is about freedom. Freedom from being trapped in a body that has increasingly limited my life - freedom to be active, to be free from constant pain, to be free from diabetes and its increasing complications, to finally get a great night’s sleep, etc, etc, etc.
I have spent my entire life carrying the shame of being sexually abused as a young child, and what feels the shame of the generations in my family before me. I’ve done a ton (pun intended) of personal work to get to this point, and the one remaining symbol of the shame is the fat that I carry on my body. Time for it to go!
Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences and expertise. I am sending a very special thank you out to Larra for giving me invaluable guidance early on, and to Amy Lucha for helping me after surgery. You are both living angels!
With much gratitude,
Tricia
