I know this post is a few weeks old, but if you're still looking for info, I had the DS done with Dr. Alverdy at U of Chicago last month and would be happy to share my experiences.

In general, I'm 7 weeks out, have lost 48 pounds, and have had no complications. I lost 35 pounds in the first couple weeks, then what felt like nothing for the next 3 weeks or so. Now I'm losing again. Recovery went perfectly, I'm managing well with my vitamins (though following vitalady's schedule, not the surgeon's). I'm getting in between 80-100 grams of protein a day, usually right around 85.  The advice I received from the nutritionists and such was not consistent with the vets here, and I'm listening to the vets here. It wasn't TERRIBLE advice, but focuses on lower fat than we need. They give the same diet to RNY and DS patients, and of course, that doesn't REALLY make sense. I did follow the texture restrictions though--high protein/low carb/mostly liquid prior to surgery, two weeks of pureed foods after surgery, soft foods for the next few weeks, and now I've graduated to the "eat whatever you want" phase. It was all managable, and no where near as bad as some of the other progressions I've read about on here.

I'm happy to give more details about my pre-op visits and hospital stay if you want to email me. terilou2 (at) gmail (dot) com
