Lap bander seriously considering DS

I will also say I did sign a consent form which states that I would have the DS done and no other surgery.

So, you signed a form stating you would only get the DS, yet you woke up with something 'considered a DS'? (which you still have clarified for me, either????) Are you doing anything about the medical malpractice?

NO! Lol people are funny. I woke up with the DS - I got what I wanted and what I expected. My surgeon has a great track record and you can check yourself. Heck, I invite any one who is not understanding to give him a call. I am not the only one on here that had the DS from him. I am definitely not going to go for malpractice when I have lost 75 lbs in less than 3 months and feel healthier than ever. As for your 'considered' question earlier I didn't see it until now - but I am glad to answer it. It's considered a DS - it is a DS. I am truly sorry the vernacular was so confusing to you :) I can see how it could be confusing. The word consider was not meant to imply that it is some weird surgery that my surgeon and I decided to call a DS for giggles and kicks. It's sad that instead of answering the original poster's question some are trying to make this post about me or at least their opinion of what they think is me.

But, here is a quote from you posting history, and if you look up the definitions, they are not the same thing. Not that your surgery isn't working, it is -congratulations! But, the information that pertains to you does not necessarily pertain to a DSer, and visa versa. Especially things like fat consumption - we malabsorb 80%, and you likely malabsorb what? about 50%? So telling you things I'd tell a DSer about eating more butter or what to do about constipation may not apply. That's my issue. Your surgery may be the next best thing since white sliced bread, and we'll maybe know that in another 10 years, but for now, it just needs to be clear. Just like a DS is NOT the same as a BPD, a SADI is not the same as a DS. Like it? Maybe. But NOT the same. 'Considered a DS'? Maybe by you and your surgeon, but NOT by the medical community as a whole.

Topic: RE: Duodenal Switch With Single Anastomosis

I had this done! I LOVE it! There are lower complication rates with it because of how they "hook" in the rerouted intestines. I felt icky for about a week after surgery and since then I have had way more energy than I have had in a long time. I have also lost the back and knee pain I had just from walking. Even for this type of surgery mine is conservative (300 cm common channel) I am 2 months out and I have lost 60 lbs and am still going strong. I do watch my carbs and really focus on my water intake. Everyone will have different results but I also think it is important to remember that it is a tool and not just a fix.

And, clearly, the original poster should be aware of ALL surgery types, including the SADI. Not that I'd recommend it, since there isn't much for data on it yet, but it's the OP's body. If the surgery IS the next best thing since white sliced bread, she should be aware that it exists, as should everyone else. I'm not sure why you are trying so hard to sweep your ACTUAL surgery under the rug . . . . if people don't know it exists, they can't make their own decision. You making that decision for them by denying the SADI, imply something I'm not sure you mean to imply (that you wouldn't recommend it).

Since when are you the "medical community". Congrats and pat yourself on the back for thinking you know more than my surgeon. I have other articles where my surgery is called a DS as well - not hard to find so I am not sure about your "medical community" unless you mean grumpy old ladies that troll boards to fill in holes I their lives. Even looking at different DS patients BMs are along a spectrum and as much as you may hate it I find myself pretty mid-way in that spectrum. I have heard people on her claim everything from diarrhea to constipation - so me saying that I haven't had problems since starting my vitamins isn't scary and insane for someone considering the DS. How sad how much my advice is impacting you. I am sorry your Christmas Day was so boring you spent it searching my previous posts and even posted to me twice. I spent a wonderful day with friends and family without thinking of you once. Just so you know you might as well stop. You won't change my mind nor stop me from giving advice and support to those I choose to. I will no longer read or respond to any of your posts. The board is obesity help not - bully others, so I choose not to focus on those who want to set themselves up as an authority when they aren't. Thanks for the few small giggles about how big of a deal you and a few "all knowing" others have made of my journey.

If your health would benefit from the DS, then by all means have the band removed and get the sleeve and DS. Only your DS Surgeon can tell you this, and you must be certain to meet with a vetted surgeon. Also a consult re lupus and WLS , etc. Leaving the band in and no revision is not likely to result in long term weight loss, maintaining without regain... Good luck

These surgeons understand that they are few and far between.  Expect to stay local around 2 weeks.  If any serious complications will occur, they will materialize in that time,  Once you're cleared, your PCP can handle your after-care from that point and they can confer with your surgeon if need-be.
