3 days ou****er help!
I'm 3 days out and having trouble with getting water down. I was drinking lots of water before surgery, but it just tastes so metallic to me now. I can get the ounces down, that's not the problem, it's the taste, very hard for me to swallow. Also, when I take a sip, it feels like a lead ball plopped into my stomach. Any ideas or suggestions??
I have the same reaction to water. I only drank carbonated before surgery. I discovered Mio Sweet Tea and added a little Mio Cranberry-Raspberry. Taste like Arizona Iced Tea, and I have broken the carb water problem, and the steely ots your stomach feeling. There are many flavors. I add it to Fiji, which has the leas****er taste.... Good luck!

Have you tried something warm like broth or tea? For some reason warm liquids worked better for me early on. I couldn't stand plain water for the first couple of months. You might add some lemon to the water and see if that helps. Also depending on your reaction to artificial sweeteners you might try crystal light on the go packets or something like that (mio?). I add one packet to about 24 oz of water otherwise it is too strong.
Try different temperatures, and if you're using a flavored water, try diluting it. Or try soup. Egg drop soup often goes well.
I found that the bottled water from Costco, the Kirkland brand, tasted metallic to me post-op when it was just fine pre-op. I switched to a different brand and the new stuff didn't have that metallic taste. So try different brands as well.

Struggling with fluids is so common early out. You have to find something you can tolerate. Water, SF kool-aid, Crystal light, tea, broth, SF popsicles, etc. They are all fluids. What worked for me was SUPER hot decaf tea with lemon. I drank it all day long. It was so hot that it forced me to take itty-bitty sips. Because I was taking such small sips, I never got that "lead ball" feeling. Keep trying different things...and different temperatures until you find what works for you and take even smaller sips than what you are now to avoid the stomach discomfort.

I trick I learned for water from one of the guys on the lightweight board was to add a squirt of fresh lime juice and a little Splenda or Truvia to taste. I guess you could try it at different temps. There's something about adding that tiny bit of acid to plain water that helps.
