Vomiting

Ok...Just don't know if I should be concerned. I still feel like death, constantly nauseous, weak and miserable. I promise not to b**** about that to you guys all the time BUT today I vomited quite a bit in one session. This is after phenergan and zofran. Nothing came up and it was a good 4 hours after my last attempt at a meal (a soft poached egg with refried beans), I ate half a teaspoon. I am by no means getting in protein at this point, nor many meds or any vites. Water and Vitamin water are all I can seem to tolerate. Do I need to be concerned about the vomiting episode? Is all of this normal, I never seem to find posts from anyone having as many issues post-op as I am. I can honestly say at this point I totally regret this decision because for the last 13 days I've been miserable. On the up side it can only get better...

I would keep up on the water and do broth or egg drop soup. Quite often you think you are getting in enough water, but just aren't and you may be dehydrated, perpetuating the nausea. Perhaps the egg and refried beans are too much for your tummy still. Have you called Dr. Smith yet and asked him?

i was in for my F/U on Friday and he sent me to ER to have CT scan done and blood work - all came back fine.  I just don't know if I should bother him now about the vomiting or wait till tomorrow. I am hoping it was an isolated incident. Quite honestly all food is repulsive right now, but liquids are worse.

Do not worry about foods, supplements right now.  You have enough stores to last you.  You are very fresh post op still.  You must take in fluids!  Dehydration can lead to nothing but trouble.  Keep trying....water, G2, Propel, tea, iced tea, sf popsicles, broth, sf jello....YOU MUST HYDRATE!!!!

I know it sucks right now.  I never thought I'd survive the first 2 months, but I did!  I promise you, it gets better!!!  Drink drink drink and rest!  Your body is telling you what it needs...fluids, walking and rest.

My guess is dehydration.  It causes both fatigue as well as nausea.  An IV bag of fluids may have you feeling MUCH better.

I got 2 bags when I was in ER last Friday, made no difference for me.  I know pain meds make me sick, but everything is making me sick.  I am drinking a good amount and taking the pain pills.  I can deal with it, was just freaked out about actually vomiting.  I added some more solid foods and it has helped.  I did some soft scrambled eggs and even some soft chicken. I know it is ahead of where I am supposed to be but less nausea now :) Hopefully I am not killing myself, LOL!

One teaspoon of soft food is normal right now. Are you sure you are not trying to eat too much?

As other people have mentioned, food is not important right now. But, you must stay hydrated. Dehydration can be rapidly deadly. It will make you feel nauseous drinking water. But, you must sip, sip, sip in small amounts, anyway, to get past it.

Go very slow with food. You do not need to eat. You do need to drink. The more you vomit, the more you need to drink.

Please call your doctor first thing in the morning, as soon as they open. You need help ASAP. This is not normal to be this sick, especially for 2 weeks!  Take good care of yourself.
